“Happy Medium”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Stayed in cabin #4 with friends from NY (we are from TN). We had 9 people total, 4 adults and 5 kids. The owner was fine with letting us just bring an extra airbed at no extra charge. Since it stormed part of our stay, we were happy to have decided to do this cabin instead of tents (which would have cost almost the same price since the campgrounds wanted to charge us by the person rather than by the site). Cabins are exactly as pictured on their site (think "bunkhouse with all the bunks on the floor), very clean and about 10-15 mins from Wal-mart, Kroger, restaurants and the outfitters. The TV worked fine for us and offered several channels to keep the kids entertained during the rainy nights. Beds are not too comfortable, especially the 6 upstairs, but for the price it can't be beat. Full sets of towels for 8 people included as well as other linens and plenty of hot water ( which was great after the white water rafting). Would stay here again if we went back.

We booked New River Cabins at the last minute and are we glad we did! 5 minute drive from the New River and close to all the rafting companies. They also included all the towels and linens. We were only a few minutes away from the zip lines and timber trek too. The rate included everyone and there was NO extra cost for more people like some cabins charge. We had a group of 8 and everyone had their own bed. Very clean and nice cabins!!! Nice kitchenette and clean bathroom. We sat around the fire outside and made smores. We would stay there again and would recommend it to others looking for a nice cabin with a great location and great price. Keep up the good work New River Cabins!

Room Tip: The best one is #4 at the end!

My wife and I booked a cabin at New River Cabins at the last minute. There are four cabins here on a county road right of the freeway. Cabins are about 4 miles from New River Gorge and about 10 miles from Summersville Lake.

These cabins opened in late 2009 and are still in good shape. The interior of each cabin has a shower, kitchenette, full size refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. There are 2 beds down stairs and 6 upstairs. No living or dining area and chairs and table inside are the fold up kind. A TV with Direct TV service is available, however, we never got it to work.

However the parking area needs a load of gravel and some serious trimming and weed thatching. From the outside the general appearance is poor and un-kept. I first wondered what I had done! With a decent amount of work the outside "ambiance" would seal the deal.

If you're more into the area activities and not hanging out at the cabin, this is the place for you! Everything you need is there and close to area attractions. If you want serenity and great landscapes to view this is not what you are looking for. Great for climbers and those rafting on the New River.

Owners are very nice people and very service minded. A book is provided for area information and a journal for all occupants to write in to pass on to the next occupant. That was a nice touch. I would stay here again.
