“Glade Springs for the 4th”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

Glade Springs is a very nice place to visit with exceptional golf. The accommodations could use a little more TLC especially considering the price and the resort could stand to add a few perks such as free shuttle service to the Greenbrier Classic concerts, bottled water in rooms, in room movies, or a snack/drink selection (billable) to name a few. The price is steep in my opinion for the level of service and overall plushness of the rooms/facilities. I could have stayed at Pinehurst - Carolina Inn, played the Pinehurst courses and received far more "perks" than I got at Glade for less money!! Go figure that one out!!

Room Tip: I stayed in the manor houses which are ok, were updated about 3 or 4 years ago but are starting to s...

Love the activities at Glade - golf courses and pool are very nice, food is average. We stayed in the Executive Suite and took the shuttle service to the Greenbrier Classic. First - the Executive Suite we stayed in was absolutely terrible. Carpet Stains, mold and mildew in shower, and zero water pressure in the shower. The room wasn't worth $50/night, and yet we paid full rate. Never again. Second - we paid $100 to shuttle us from the resort to Lewisburg to attend the Greenbrier Classic Maroon 5 concert. We tried to carry on two 20oz styrofoam cups, nothing else. You would have thought we were smuggling crack on board the way the security guards acted. The whole point of taking the shuttle was to have a beverage. Others on board brought theirs on discretely. We still like the resort, but we will never stay in the Executive Suites again, or take the shuttle service during the Greenbrier Classic.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Executive Suites section of the resort. About $200/night, not worth $50. We hav...

Dear John W,
Thank you for sharing your review. The issues in the Executive Suite will be addressed and we appreciate you providing this feedback. Regarding the shuttles to the concert, we do prohibit taking alcohol on our shuttles. This is to ensure the safety of our passengers and drivers. The main reason we provide the shuttles is for convenience of entering the concert right by the stage and not having to park and walk or be in traffic after the concert is over. We want all of our guests to have a pleasant experience to and from the concerts. We notified our guests prior to the concerts that alcohol would be prohibited on the shuttles and we are sorry if this information did not reach you prior to boarding. We hope to see you again during next year’s Greenbrier Classic or sooner. Thank you for staying with us!

There were some great parts of our stay and some significant issues that never were resolved. If there is another option in the area, I would seek out an alternative. I didn't give it a terrible because despite the issues, we did actually enjoy ourselves, but I think this had more to do with company than the actual resort.

Pros:
- The outdoor pool and cabana rental was amazing. We genuinely enjoyed our time and felt like we were on "vacation". The outdoor pool area was clean and well maintained.

- The staff/experience at the stable was incredible.

Cons:

- Our reservation requests was not honored when we were told at booking (and I called 3 different times with missing information) that those requests would not be a problem. They were not able to fix the issue.

- The water temperature in our room when you turned on the hot tap was so hot it actually burned one of my fingers. We asked them to resolve this issue, it didn't happen.

- Both meals took over an hour to arrive. If you anticipate busy summer vacationers, hire more staff during this time. If you want to eat at 7, plan to get there are order no later than 5:30pm. We even gave the pool "small talk cafe" about an hour to get our food ready (we went swimming) and they still forgot part of our order.

- Many of the areas were not small kid friends and not easily accessible, especially the leisure center

- The bathrooms were dirty and the beds uncomfortable. At some point I am sure this was a "luxury" resort, but both the place needs some TLC to bring it up to current standards of luxury.

- There were lots of missing items at check in (Soap, shampoo, etc) and someone left a coke bottle in our trash can in our room at arrival

- The staff didn't particularly go out of their way to help when issues arose. They seem frustrated and overworked.

Dear Travellerr80,
Thank you for providing the valuable feedback about your visit. While we are happy to see that the outdoor pool and cabana was amazing and that the staff and your experience at the equestrian center was incredible, it is disappointing to see that we failed in exceeding your expectations in the other areas. I would love to have the opportunity to talk with you further about the requests that were not honored and the other issues so that we may fix our inconsistencies as they are unacceptable and do not meet up to our standards. Will you please call me at your convenience at 304-763-0816? I look forward to your call, DeAnna Delp.

There was nothing executive about the executive suites. There were stains on the carpet and mildew on the tile around the shower/tub. This was not what I would expect when I pay such high nightly rates. Needs a complete updating and the wifi did not work. Will not stay here again,

Room Tip: Stay in the inn, not in the executive suites.

Booked through one of the blind deals on a favorite travel site, the resort proved to be an excellent alternative to the freeway exit hotels. Though several miles out of our way and way off the beaten path, it was worth it. Very comfortable and quiet. Does need some updating and exterior cleaning. We stayed upstairs in the Sycamore building. The grill was delightful. Perfect server and good food, though it took a while to get it brought out.

Dear DMS1157,
We are so glad that you found us and that you feel we are an excellent alternative to the hotels just off the interstate. Just so that our other travelers know, we are only 5 miles from I-64 and 8 miles from I-77, and hopefully for all, well worth the extra drive time. It is nice to see that you enjoyed Glade's Grill with a perfect server and perfect food. We hope you will join us again the next time you are passing through Beckley, WV!

A year in advance, we contracted with Glade to hold our 50th wedding anniversary party (consisting of 100 family and friends) at the outdoor pool with specific assurance that the pool would be closed for our event. We reserved a Manor House for our family. Four (repeat-- four) days prior to the celebration, we were informed by management that the pool would be open for resort members and guests-- a clear and acknowledged breach of contract and an obvious incompatible mix. Although forced to move the venue to the pavilion due to weather (rain), the decision by the resort general manager to not abide with his agreement, caused significant distress to my wife and me. For personal reasons and despite a clear contract, we have decided to not pursue legal measures. However, be aware that Glade management is not to be trusted. It's a wonderful place with fabulous people marred by disappointing leadership. As temporary residents of Glade, we write this review with regret.

Room Tip: Don't choose rooms on the bottom floor of the Manor Houses-- any activity on the second floor wi...

My husband and I have stayed here the past two years during the Greenbriar Classic. We love the setup, the golf courses and the idea of ending up here is a dream for the future. The house keepers could use some pointers and may try to make their guest feel more welcomed. We did enjoy the amenities the resort had to offer but the gym needs an overhaul. The service at the pub was great but the kitchen for the second year in a row was a fail. The waitresses and bartenders are constantly apologizing for the wait. For two salmon salads we waited over a hour, Cassie was amazing. Kristin was running around like a maniac the first day we were there, ALL day and night and she did so well by herself, but again the kitchen disappointed. The evening of the fireworks was crazy and that's expected but there was a disgruntle customer at the bar and irritated because her large order of burgers, 8 to be exact was taking longer than she thought she snapped at Cassie, ok, whatever, but then she voiced "do you know who I am?" She marched into the kitchen. Cassie kept her composure but was obviously embarrassed. I later asked who the lady was, she is a resort employee. Jennifer Gwen. Name or spelling could be off. But, I was so disappointed in the overwhelming lack of respect and help for guests along with fellow employees. My husband and I would like to return and when we spend 2k for a long weekend feel like every penny was worth it.

Dear JontM,
Thank you for your loyalty and staying with us over the Greenbrier Classic. We appreciate this feedback. Your review has been shared with our management team and these issues have been addressed. We want to apologize for your wait times in Bunkers. These are some of the busiest days of the year for the resort but we are happy to see that Cassie and Kristin were going over and beyond. We will certainly share these accolades with them, as it is our philosophy that our associates are our most valuable assets. We hope to see you again next year during the Classic or sooner!
