“A nice getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

If you are planning to get rich and live the good life from casino winnings, you are living in a fantasy world. If you are the occasional gambler like me then this is a good place to stay. The rooms in the tower are beautiful. There are many slot machine choices, my only complaint is the need for more Tables for black jack, very hard to get on tables on a weekend evening. Now the Riverfront Buffet was absolutely amazing! Very impressed with the value and delicious food choices! The service was super friendly and efficient. Better more flavorful food there than I have had at top choice restaurants. The Gatsby where we had breakfast left something to be desired, retrain the servers, if they don't want to be there tell them to find new jobs, ours was not observant or pleasant, yes I know its a job, but you get more flies with honey!

Room Tip: Choose a tower room, it is the newer part of the hotel. Lodge area seemed quieter though.

New chairs in the casino, new chairs for the indoor pool. They were putting in new carpet in the casino as well that have a lot of bright colors, very nice. It is not so dark and in there now. It was a wonderful getaway before the Thanksgiving and Christmas craziness.

Room Tip: If your are 55 or over go on tuesday's for the 5$ buffet, it is excellent.

We did a day visit today to the Mountaineer Casino. It seems to need an update, and is dark and smokey. The slots were very tight, we heard several others complaining too. They lure you in with their coupons and discounts, then tighten their slots.

Check in is always fast. Valet parking is worth it to help get your luggage in and incase your rooms not ready they hold it for you.

Rooms are ALWAYS clean and comfortable.

Bring your swimsuit. . the indoor pool is great and fun to waste some time in if your not gambling your whole stay.

Check out is easy and fast.

We love Mountaineer for a quick weekend get-away.

The Lodge rooms are nothing to be afraid of. . I prefer them really because they are much closer to the casino floor.

We will definatley be coming back for more = )

Room Tip: Sign up for players card and get very cheap room rates. . usually $39 or free during the week and on...

Just back from spending the Labor Day weekend at the The Mountaineer. The casino itself is very "Las Vegas" and very exciting and fun. Tons of noise and thousands of people. There are several restaurants: a buffet (don't bother); a small casual restaurant called Gatsby's (very nice, good food, nice wait staff); Al's deli (ok sandwiches). There are also a couple more eating places that I can't remember off hand.

The machine games are the usual and the table games look like fun; plus there is horseracing if you want (very nice track). There is also golf for the sports minded and a theatre with some good acts.

Anyway, talking about the hotel . . . the rooms are very large, the beds are very comfortable. However, there were no ice buckets, coffeemakers or glasses in my room. I was in the newer part of the hotel so maybe they hadn't completed accessorizing it. I didn't complain because I didn't spend all that much time in my room! It's a very nice hotel and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful.

I highly recommend this hotel for a long weekend or, if you really like gaming, perhaps for a week's vacation. There are loads of bargains and free stuff. I really enjoyed my stay and so did my friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in the newer section, on the 6th floor (6059). We had standard rooms but they were very l...

My friend and I stayed here because we went to the West Virginia Derby, a major horse race run at the racetrack which is part of the Mountaineer complex. The hotel and casino share the largest area of buildings, across the huge parking lot from the track, and they do run shuttle busses from one area to another. The room was a bit pricey and not very big. That day it was really hot and when we got to the room the AC was cranked all the way up. We found out that it had to stay that way because hot air leaked in all around the door to the balcony. We had an inside room that looked out on a center court with the swimming pool and, that night, a really loud live band. The thunderstorm that rolled in around 8 pm did put a stop to the "music" and cooled things off.
We were very happy with the restaurant nearest to our area, The Godfather. The service was fantastic, the food acceptable, and the prices were very reasonable. We had dinner and breakfast there; it overlooks the main casino area and stays open until late at night. It was convenient staying at the hotel because it was right there and had a restaurant; there is not much else available in this part of the country for restaurants unless you drive for miles.

Room Tip: We didn't find any elevators so I recommend that you try to stay on the first floor.

We stayed on a Sunday night because we were offered a free room, so I cant complain to much. The air conditioner in our room did not work right. Maintenance was called, but they still didnt fix it right (they were very nice and polite though). The only other problem is a worker by the name of Patty (in the food section where you can buy nachos and slices of pizza) was very-very rude to us. She should not work with the public. Everyone else was very friendly.

Overall, I would probably go back again (hopefully have a room with air conditioning that works). If you plan on gambling, play the quarter slots by the high limit area. Also, make sure you get a players card!!
