“Friendly place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This is primarily a cozy bar, but it is known for having good burgers. They have undergone some renovations, and there is a plastic sheet separating the bar from a stairwell leading to a still unfinished portion of the bar. I had lunch there last week and had a bowl of very tasty chili and a sandwich. The service was fast and the staff is friendly. In summary, the food was good but the atmoshphere is best for having a beer after work.

Sam's has had a face lift, a renovated kitchen, and is now under new management and ownership! Stop by and check it out for yourself!!! Great pub grub. A fantastic selection of beers and libations. A great staff!

“Rats. Seriously. BIG BOLD RATS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2011

The smoking ban was the worst thing to happen to this place as now you can truly appreciate how terribly the entire place smells. We sat at the bar, but the rats running around in the kitchen caught my eye.

Disgusting, filthy, awful.

“more of a bar than a restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2011

this is a decent enough bar, but the food is the kind of food you'd expect from a bar. they do have a good steak sandwich though, which i've ordered to go after a night of drinking a few times.

“Can't review the food because after an hour of waiting, we left without eating"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2009

We planned a stop in Charleston in the middle of a 12 hour drive to the coast. Before leaving, we spent a bit of time researching the city so we could actually use the opportunity to see the city. We happened to be passing through on the night before a big festival so we got to see an opening band along the river--super nice. We had found a few restaurants in that area and decided to try Sam's. We ordered a pitcher and sandwiches. After 30 min or so, we asked the bartended whether the food would be coming out shortly and he said "we are feeding all of downtown tonight since we are the only ones open for the festival." Except, the place only had about 10 people in it. And we were at the bar- which meant we could see all of the food coming out the kitchen- of lack of food. After an hour, we just left the money for our pitcher at the bar and left. Unfortunately by then, most other places were no longer serving food. SO for our fun night in Charleson, we ended up at Applebees. Classic.
