Owner description: One of the oldest and most scenic routes in the United States, the Midland Trail, or old U.S. Route 60, offers a delightful 119-mile journey across south central West Virginia. Outdoor enthusiasts head for the Greenbrier River Trail, which offers over 80 miles of well-marked hiking and biking paths. History buffs can stop off at any number of historic sites including the Old Stone House, a reminder of what life was like for the industrial pioneers.

“Beautiful views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We took a drive on Route 60 through the mountains and found
it very beautiful. We really wanted to ride the Jet boats at Hawks
Nest but they were only opened on the weekends and we arrived
on a Monday, very disappointed. They open during the week in
October, closed on Wednesday only. I know it would be so beautiful with all the trees turning colors. The ride is very curvy,
and snake like but it has beautiful views.

“West Virginia at its finest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

This road is an amazing trip from US19 to Charleston this road is so scenic as it goes up Gauley MT. This road passes by countless beautiful small towns on the way to Charleston as transitions from the mountains to the valley . Definitely a must do while in West Virginia.

“Scenic, soothing drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

One of my favorite paths to take. My family lives outside the capital off the Midland Trail. You can truly see the character of WV, driving up and down roads like these. Going through places like Glasgow, seeing the numerous locks and coal mills directly off the road. Culture up these roads is so dynamic, seeing completely broken down housing, next to a new McMansion. You can learn alot from the load less traveled, I highly suggest taking a one hour trip up and down this trail.

“Beautiful Views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

On Route 60, there are truly breathtaking views. The road, however, is as crooked as a barrel full of snakes. If you are prone to travel or motion sickness, be forewarned: Dramamine is a necessity! Also be aware that unless you are accustomed to driving on our crooked roads that you will need to take it slow: some of the curves are hair pin! Be sure to stop off at Hawks Nest and ride the jet boats, or take the tram for a fabulous view of Wild, Wonderful West Virginia! The food is great there, as well. And in the same general area there is a rest stop where you can walk a short trail and see the view that is in the pic, and there is a small gift shop, restrooms, and a museum right beside the road!

“Scenic in various ways”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Driving east from Charleston you will pass through coal country, which is scenic in its own way. Then you drive along a very serpentine trail w/mountains and gorges/rivers on either side. A taste of this beautiful state.
