family member had an emergency visit to CAMC - so a bunch of us descended on Charleston. WV. First night in town was the night before the state high school track meet - hats off to the night person at the Holiday Inn Express in Belle (which was booked up) for helping us find a room at the downtown Best Western (which was great by the way) - Day 2 we moved to So. Charleston Holiday Inn Express because we wanted to get all the family in the same hotel. This hotel allows pets and still has smoking rooms - things that made several family members very happy.
- The hotel decor is surprisingly hip and rooms were spotless and equally hip. Since we had someone in the hospital we were given a great rate. How cool is that? Yes... there are train tracks... which means there's an occasional train - but we really didn't notice. Rooms were quiet and comfortable. Beds were great. I travel quite a bit with work and walked away impressed with the hotel and the hospitality of the staff (West Virginia folks are just possibly the friendliest, most helpful people you're going to meet anywhere - I rate them 5 stars) - The restaurant was actually quite good as well, which is a good thing, not a whole lot of options close by. Ok Mexican next door and pretty good Vietnamese 6 or 8 blocks away (but no late hours there)
Take a few minutes and check the downtown indian mound out. It's worth it.
TIP - LOOK FOR THE WINGATE INN SIGN - the hotel sets back away from the little downtown... like 5 or 6 blocks behind the indian mound - next to the Wingate Inn.
