First of all this is a well managed, very clean facility. It is located 2 blocks from the Marriott, where our meeting was held...very convenient, as well as across from an enclosed shopping mall with several chain type restaurants. Parking at $12 a day was reasonable....unfortunately they do not offer valet service, or bell services as far as I could tell. Room was very clean as well as the restaurant. Service at breakfast and evening reception was friendly and efficient...evening snacks were fairly generous...unfortunately they are removed 10 minutes prior to the the 7:30 closing and the person who provided table cleanup was abrupt to being rude....but bartenders were VERY polite and helpful. Checkin was efficient, however you cannot checkin on line at this facility yet. Upon checkin I was told that my upgrade request was honored, but the desk person had no idea exactly what it represented. It turns out I had requested a "premium suite" upgrade when I reserved about 5 months before...turns out this puts you on a floor that has a vending machine for snacks/soft drinks and a bowl of fruit and a Keurig coffee maker...you are given a code number that enables you to vend 1 snack a day for each guest. We never used the Keurig as we simply went downstairs for our coffee....and Keurig has become the standard for most hotel chains at this time (Omni brings fresh hot coffee with a piece of fruit to your room each morning comp). The beverage vending machine simply didn't work and the self serve fruit bowel was empty most of the 2 days that we stayed. We did enjoy a candy bar each day. I think this floor may have come with free WIFI...however you get this with a gold honors level anywhere. The upcharge for this room I believe was $30 per day....for a candy bar each day. So my recommendation is do not do the premium suite upgrade, bring your own candy bar and enjoy an excellent, clean, convenient hotel with an outstanding staff and impressive manager's reception. Be aware that like all Embassy Suites this property is popular with "groups"....the first night was the NRA group (great people) the second night was a martial arts group (very large group, primarily teenagers, relatively well behaved...but LOTS of them). I have stayed here maybe 10 times and it is always my first choice for downtown Charleston.
