“A perfect honeymoon spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

My husband and I spent a few days at Hillbrook for our honeymoon. It was perfect- private, and cozy with wonderful food, hospitality and beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a romantic 6 course dinner, relaxing massages and a charming cottage with a fireplace and spa tub. They even arranged for us to make a wedding quilt under the guidance of their talented quilting teacher. We will cherish this forever. The Inn's owner then surprised us with our own quilt rack to display an antique family quilt we had received as a wedding present. What a thoughtful gift! We were very impressed with the outstanding guest services and personal touches which made our stay so special, We cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: There is a lot to do in the area but just enjoying the Inn and grounds deserves a fair amount of tim...

My husband and I went for our anniversary. Loved the grounds, the house and our room. IPADs in each room were a very nice touch. They had an app for the Inn to make reservations or even order ice to your room! Great food. And great restaurants in Charles Town (Dish). Recommend!!

We visited two weeks ago to celebrate our anniversary. It was a fantastic stay, the Inn was perfect and the staff were very helpful. And the food was outstanding! Thanks for a great weekend! The Bamford suite was very nice, and the private patio overlooking the beautifully maintained grounds was a great place to spend the evening. We sat on the porch as a rainstorm came in, and we got to watch some deer come out of the field and eat.

Room Tip: try the Bamford suite! the private porch was a great place to watch the sunset

Dear BrentandCrystal: We enjoyed celebrating your anniversary with you both! Thank you for the kind words about dinner and the grounds. The Bamford Suite is a very popular suite because of the private porch and we are glad to hear you were able to see the deer and sunset! We look forward to seeing you in the future.

We took a trip for a quick getaway to the Harper's Ferry area and booked this Inn, 2 years ago. Our trip was centered around hiking and whitewater rafting near by. The Inn has beautiful architecture in a secluded area not far from Charles Town, WV. We stayed in the summer cottage, which is separate from the main Inn. The cottage was spacious with a large bed, chairs, dressers, and tv. The bathroom was very large with a soaking-whirlpool tub, and separate dual showers. The onwer was very friendly and accomodating. Their recommendation for dinner in Charles Town was very good. We did have a very nice dinner at the Inn. The food was excellent and very fresh. The courses were nicely spaced and the wine pairing was well matched. The grounds are very nice and clean. Eventhough there were other guests booked at the Inn it was very quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend a stay at this Inn.

Room Tip: Cottage rooms are large and quiet.

We waited to celebrate our anniversary until the inn had the room we wanted available. This is a heavily booked property.

The Inn held a late dinner for us as they normally seat only at 6 p.m. On our arrival they treated us like family. At dinner they fed us the same way.

First a mango, feta, arugula and almond salad with Greek vinaigrette. Then, perfectly prepared exceptionally tender filet mignon, fresh yellow and Silver Queen corn sliced from the cob, homemade mashed potatoes and excellent haricot vert with ciabatta rolls. Then a dark chocolate pate with embedded pecans, fresh cherry slices and a vanilla creme sauce. 5 STARS.

Our room was better than we expected and just what we needed after the hellaciously hot summer we have been enduring. It was made up daily by a cheerful and informative household staff. The appointments were thematic and comforting. We selected the room based on sun exposure and the type chairs shown in the on-line photo.

Then there was breakfast #1

Blueberries, plum slices, homemade granola, and fruit syrup served as a parfait followed by scrambled eggs garnished with brie, bacon, french toast (with Haitian Coffee syrup) and pecans.

Breakfast #2

Fresh peaches and toasted almonds with Greek yogurt sweetened with honey, whipping cream and almond extract. Followed by Eggs Benedict (not drowned in Hollandaise) garnished with dill and accompanied by grilled garden fresh asparagus.

Breakfast #3

Sauteed Pink Lady apple slices with allspice and the strudel pastry on the side. A deconstructed spinach, sweet onion and cheese omelet garnished with fresh pineapple spears.

The menus were personalized. We were asked to supply allergies, likes and dislikes ahead of time so the chef could work around them. The service was excellent and personalized. The lady who supervised the entire operation from welcome to departure was a calm and congenial Texan who added greatly to our stay. She was also responsible for all the meals we had here (comment at bottom).

The view out our window was timeless (except for the plastic chairs for the scheduled “elopement”). I kept looking for a hobbit to come walking up the swale.

UNFORTUNATELY, a three course dinner is no longer served daily -- Tuesday and Wednesday nights the kitchen is closed. This is a change we were warned of just a day or two before arrival by the owner by phone. This is a disconnect with their website. They apologized with a cheese tray. This would have been a five star rating had we not had to leave the property for dinner.

Room Tip: The entire location is quiet, but the cottage rooms 100 yards away from the main building are quiete...

We are so happy that you were able to celebrate your anniversary with you! We appreciate that you thought the property is heavenly and you were treated like family! We are so happy that we were able to accommodate a late dinner on the date of your arrival. I appreciate the 5 star comment on dining as well, it really means the world to me and the Hillbrook Staff!
We loved hearing about how you enjoyed your room and the household staff. I am glad that they were informative and helpful during your stay.

As for the breakfast menus, thank you for sharing them with everyone. They are sumptuous! There is nothing like a special breakfast in the morning to get the day started. Thank you for noticing they were personalized and that our “congenial Texan” was helpful and delightful during your stay. She is a very special person to each of us as well and she brings so much to the Hillbrook Inn!
I am sorry to hear that the chairs were outside in the yard during your stay for the elopement package. I know they were not perfect for you, but for the couple that said their vows that day, it was the whole world in that moment. That space represented a lifetime together and a special moment that they will never forget. Thank you for understanding and I will tell the groundskeeper that if he can remove them faster in the future, it could be hugely appreciated by other guests.

As for the three-course dinner it is offered every day now seating at 6pm. That particular week, we had to make some adjustments to the dining, which is what I stated on the phone. It was due to a staff member unexpectedly having to take off. Unfortunately life sometimes gets in our way and we are sorry that this happen during your stay.
Sincerely,
Carissa Zanella

Even though I only had the pleasure of residing at this lovely resort for one evening; it is my fullest intent to return with my husband for a romantic get-away. I had the honor of being one of the first guests in the Serenity Suite. This room had absolutely EVERYTHING I could want in a room; a dual shower, a huge tub for chilling out, a sauna and a fireplace. Not to mention every last inch of it was spotlessly clean! There were delicious cookies awaiting my arrival and all my needs were exceptionally met through the lush amenities provided for my convenience. The staff was outstandingly courteous- I felt like a queen. I am anxiously awaiting my chance to return to the Hillbrook Inn!

My husband wanted to race his care again at Summit Point Raceway and I was excited because that meant we would be going back to one of my favorite B&Bs, the Hillbrook Inn near Charles Town, WV. The grounds of the Inn are serene, lush with plants and a babbling brook which host the little troop of geese that parade around. We think the gray goose that has adopted a Canadian geese family is so sweet. We stayed in the Winter Cottage (my favorite) and loved the big room, flat screen, large bathroom with a whirlpool tub – it was too warm to use the gas fireplace. Before dinner we had drink in the Tavern area and Bobby once again made sure my hubby got his favorite cocktail. We dined at the Inn and again we were wowed by the service and food. It is so nice that Chef comes out and makes sure everything was to our liking. It is so nice that an Inn of this caliber allows pets. We got to meet some sweet puppies (ALL dogs are puppies to me) and loved talking with the other guests about their pets. This is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy what life is offering. Thanks again to the staff for making our second time even better!

It was so nice to visit with you again! I am glad that your husband enjoyed the raceway as well. I also appreciate all your kind words about the Inn! It was nice to hear that Bobbie was able to have your husband’s favorite drink ready, you were able to enjoy the serene atmosphere and that you got to visit with the puppies. Most of all I loved your line about “enjoy what life is offering.” It is nice to be able to escape with someone important in your life and truly enjoy time; life doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you for your visit and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
