“We had a Blast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

My husband and I were the first ones there on a Saturday morning. We has plenty of samplings of their wares. They were delightful conversationalists. I would recommend to anyone to take this side trip from the casino. Well worth it, and it gets your buzz started! We left with 5 bottles! Which I sadly was reminded to write this review, because we ran out :( I will be back soon, and I am bringing friends.

“You can't go wrong visiting this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Not even sure how i found this place online but boy am i glad i did find it! Hubby and visited on friday, March14th. our first time at a distillery. man oh man is this place great. FREE tastings (13 total - the pumpkin was not in season or else it would have been 14), funtenders instead of bartenders. never laughed so much at a tasting. you know you're in for a good time when you walk in and see someone (turned out to be the funtender) playing the canjo (banjo made from a beer can). in all seriousness the sweetshine is amazing. made with local ingredients including their own lemons and raspberries. great hidden gem! If you're in the area YOU MUST VISIT this place it is worth it!

“Awesome place !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014 via mobile

What an interesting place ! We visited a winery in berryville, and they told us about the Bloomery. So glad they did because all the shine was delicious ! It is called sweetshine for a reason of course..most of them are very sweet, syrupy. Definitely visit them ! It's set back off the road so it's more private. Would be beautiful in the spring and summer. Everyone was very nice, Zoey was very sweet. Bought 2 bottles, might get more online at home !

“What a find! Will be back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Free tastings?? That alone is worth the trip - but it is more than a trip, it is an experience. Not much signage and off the beaten path a little and fairly constant stream of visitors - but that's because it is so awesome. Not only did we get to taste 6 different liquors, we got to taste a few concoctions as well (mixed with sorbet, several mixed together with juice & soda). Open Friday and Saturday from 11-8, there is live music from 6-8 with no cover! No food (just nuts). The servers are very informative and add to the story-telling experience. All their offerings are on the sweet side (hence why they call it "SweetShine"). They will be moving the production facilities soon and then open up the current location so there is more room. We bought 3 different types and plan to go back with friends. (They even let people bring their well behaved dogs in - with permission from everyone inside first).

“A hidden gem in Charlestown West Virginia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

Had a wonderful visit at the Bloomery this weekend with a group of friends. We managed to organize a private tasting on the second floor away from the crowded main level, so we were able to sample their 14 sweetwines at our own pace and chat among ourselves without disruption. The main level is quite cozy and intimate. When we were there, it was very crowded (standing room only) so I would recommend arranging a private tasting, especially for groups of 4 or more.

Zoe was our private hostess during our tastings. She was extremely friendly and knowledgable about each of the samples. You can tell Bloomery puts a lot of love & care into the making of their sweetwines. My favorites were the ginger , pumpkin spice and their signature limoncello. Recipe cards are provided to each visitor so that some creative conconctions can be made at home.

The sample tastings are free and because of strict local laws, any purchased sweetwines cannot be consumed on the premises. The staff is generous to offer extra samples to taste if requested, but after sampling 14 in one sitting, it was more than enough for me! Also, they do not serve food on the premises, but allow you to bring your own.

The Bloomery is a wonderful day trip venue, about an hour drive from Fairfax/Loudoun County. A little hard to find off Charlestown Road using GPS, so strongly suggest following the exact directions on their website. Look for a small lemon shaped sign on the roadside and drive down the dirt path about a 1/4mile. The Bloomery is located on a small hill on the property. There is a short steep unpaved incline to get to the parking area in front of the Bloomery, so make sure you get a running start with the gas pedal or shift to 4 wheel drive to get to the top.

I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.~
