“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We were searching for a nice restaurant for dinner after a full day at Harpers Ferry. Mezzaluna more than filled our hopes. Located in a strip mall storefront, but once inside, you forget about that. Staff was helpful and solicitous. Ordered eggplant rolletine (sp) for an appetizer and it definitely could have been a main course. For main courses, we had Fettucine Duchessa, a spinach fettucine in a cream sauce, with peas onions, chicken, pancetta and mushrooms. My wife ordered Rigatoni ala Vodka (cream vodka sauce with Pancetta). It was all superb. Lots of leftovers to take home too!
We hope to return one day!

“amazing food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We decided to try La Mezzaluna for dinner based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. All of us enjoyed our meals and the garlic knots are to die for. The one tip I have is t get there early, they don't take reservations and we waited for over an hour to be seated. Normally I wouldn't wait that long but we were waiting for someone, glad he was running late, we had an excellent meal.

“Good Italian Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

A large selection of Italian dishes all reasonably priced. You are tended to by a friendly and efficient staff. I would definitely eat here again.

“Next time, wear a hat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

First, a hat tip to the reviewers of this place as it added up to almost exactly how it was described and reviewed. Unless you are local to the area or do your homework on MapQuest, one could drive around and not be able to find it easily. We went in with moderate expectations given this was our first visit. For a Saturday night, the place was almost full (which is always a good thing for both restaurant and patrons). We were greeted warmly but quickly discovered every server was rushing around doing everything from clearing the tables, to answering phones, to helping a large party figure out how to divide up the bill.

Onto the food review and my impressions. Simply stated, it was very good in terms of preparation, appearance, and taste. The salad was brought out and the first word that came to mind was ‘boring’. A bowl full of green lettuce with a tiny little wedge of tomato looking for it’s brothers and sisters. But, behold that boring bowl of lettuce and lone tomato were bathed in very good dressing. My advice is to dress up the salad with cucumbers, carrots, etc. and with that house dressing; they would have one good looking and good tasting side dish. The blending of food and sauce was well balanced in both entrees, no ingredient stood out to offset the others. The pasta was cooked to near perfection and the chicken (Chicken Modene) was tender and absorbent of the sauce it was prepared in. The tortellini was prepared well and the cheeses that covered them made a great team.

So fast forward to the end of the dinner experience. Plenty to take home along with a couple of extra dinner rolls. Everything was moving at a great pace until request for the check fell on deaf ears. I understand that our server was moving at a quick clip, trying to seat people, serve food, clean tables and all but without a doubt, we got forgotten. We waited for nearly 15 minutes unable to catch our server’s eye. Not wanting to be rude and spoil a very good first experience, I waited it out. Just as I was ready to leave enough money to cover the cost of our meal, she remembered our table and provided us the check.

Bottom line is that the food was very good. The atmosphere and décor was average (both inside and out), but unfortunately the dinner event ended on a lower note. Without doubt, they could have used a bus person to clear the tables and a hostess to take calls and process the checks. Their food price point was a bit high but I am ok paying a little more to get a little more in quality food and service. Would I say all the servers were working hard and fast, yup. Would I come back, absolutely. Would I expect to get the check quicker than the time it took for the food to come out, definitely. Should I come in next time with a loud shirt and a fedora hat so I am remembered, could prove useful for not being forgotten.

“Highly recommended by locals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Harpers Ferry and Charlestown seem light on particularly good places to eat (search for yourself). The local distillery as well as our B&B host recommended La Mezzaluna Cafe. It was good, plentiful food, standard italian, reasonable prices, casual atmosphere, big salads, awesome rolls.

Place was reasonably crowded on a Friday evening with a mix of locals and seemingly tourists. Would revisit if in the area.
