Looking for a cheap hotel and found the Baxa Hotel. Very friendly staff, nice clean room. Will stay again. Not a Hilton but nice enough.

Ive reviewed this hotel every time I have stayed here, because I know that quality can change. I had planned to avoid writing another review due to being repetitive, but the last review here made me change my mind. The Baxa is not a hell hole, and in the 8 years I have been staying (and no, not working) there, its only improved. So yeah, theres a train nearby - did it ever bother me? No. The tracks run by at least 3 of Buckhannon's hotels. And the chain lock was loose. Its Buckhannon for crying out loud. It was never noisy when I was there, and I have to doubt that there were repeated, mass breakins into a single room. This is a small hotel in a small town. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was expecting, but the Baxa is a fine place to stay, and is not: filthy, scary, crime ridden, or uncomfortable.

Stayed there as a last resort when traveling with friends because all other rooms within 100mi of Fairport were booked for a football weekend. We're not from the area and didn't expect any trouble getting 2 rooms on a Thursday.

First impression of the place was "do they have nightly rates here, or just hourly?" It's a sleazy dive. The door to my room had clearly been broken-in several times. The chain lock was hanging by one screw and the door frame was cracked. There were mysterious stains on the blankets. There was no insulation in the walls or the windows, and every sound & cold breeze blew through.

Then as we finally settled down to sleep, the trains started.. sounded like they were coming right through our bathroom!

For $108 a room, this was the very definition of travel nightmare. I will say in fairness that our bathroom was very clean and the desk was courteous.

Reading the other reviews, I have to suspect that the owner is spending time online writing his own reviews for this place. There is no way this place can be mistaken for charming or retro.. unless your name is Monica Lewinsky..

Next time, we'll drive farther even if it means searching for a few more hours. Stay away from this Hell Hole!

We were told not to expect much as it was an older motel. But we were impressed. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and we had no complaints. It is older but it is charming. Pink tiles in the showers. Loved it. We would go back for sure. Stayed for the Strawberry festival.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights and found it to be surprisingly charming. The rooms are newly decorated and extremely clean. Great ammenities too--fridge, microwave, coffee maker and cable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. It's on a quiet street downtown and a short walk to restaurants, cafes and shopping. I plan to stay in Buckhannon every spring and fall and will make the Baxa my destination for each trip.
