I never knew the Mountain Creek Cabins even existed, until I saw the cabins advertised on Groupon Getaways. I've been trying for months to find a quiet place to take my husband for a romantic weekend and this looked like the perfect spot. We stayed in the Black Bear cabin, which had a queen size bed downstairs and a loft with two twin beds upstairs. The kitchen was well-equipped with many necessities (coffee pot, crock pot, large toaster, microwave, pots/pans, dishes, etc.) and the gas fireplace kept us warm & cozy at night. We enjoyed cooking out on the grill and spending some time in the hot tub outside. There's nothing more relaxing than soaking in the hot tub, drinking a glass of wine, and listening to the soothing sounds of the creek behind our deck! I had also contacted Linda with Back-in-Balance Massage a couple weeks before our trip and surprised my husband with a fabulous in-cabin massage....he loved it! The cabins are located in a very remote area of West Virginia, so I would advise keeping the laptop at home and your cell phone reception will be sporadic at best. However, we did take advantage of the "text" feature and placed an order for pure local maple syrup & homemade strawberry jelly, which arrived at our cabin within 20 minutes of sending the text message to the cabin owners. Next time, we will also take advantage of the fire ring behind our cabin (by the stream) to roast marshmallows. I think the fire ring is only available behind the Black Bear & White Tail cabins, so keep this in mind when making reservations. Check-in and check-out was very easy!
We also did a little sightseeing in West Virginia, enjoyed some wine & beer tasting at local venues, and went hiking, while we were there -- Forks of Cheat Winery, Mountain State Brewing Company in Morgantown, & Cooper's Rock State Park.
Overall, we had a great experience during our stay at Mountain Creek Cabins. I would recommend bringing your own pillows for personal comfort, driving a decent vehicle that can handle "country back roads", and make sure you go grocery shopping (Exit 7 - Shop & Save - off I-68) before you head to the cabin. Whatever you do...don't use your GPS for directions! We printed out the directions from the website and they got us there with no problems...the back roads are clearly marked with signs for Mountain Creek Cabins, too. We would definitely recommend these cabins to anyone looking to just "relax" and enjoy the fresh mountain air & scenery. We can't wait to come back next year with our family!
For bigger hot tubs, more spacious cabins, and a few extra amenities -- make reservations for the Bl...
