“Charm, Comfort and Delicious Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

I love to visit Highlawn and from my first visit in 1986 until my most recent, the constant care and devotion Sandy showers on her guests is the most memorable. She and all of the Highlawn Staff, generously and warmly look out for your comfort and total relaxation. A generous and glorious buffet greets your each morning, plenty of choices and the charm of a tearoom setting. The rooms are each uniquely decorated and appointed with fine linens, fragrant amenities and spotless care. Please, visit soon and enjoy a retreat in the historic town of Berkeley Springs. With nearby antiques, art and wineries as well as spas, you will have a marvelous time!

Room Tip: Decide if you wish to be in the main house or the charming nearby Aunt Pearl building or the carriag...

Sandy, her staff and the cats are the best. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. We stayed in the Parlor room which was in an adjoining house. Very nice with a jacuzzi as well. Since the spring water runs throughout the town we had a spa in our room. The breakfast is outstanding. Even after doing this for 20+ years Sandy knows how to keep it fresh.

This was our first visit to Highlawn Inn. We chose to spend our anniversary weekend there after reading several good reviews. We certainly made the right choice! We arrived in the snow and Sandy and her staff could not have done more to make us comfortable. They even cleaned the snow off of our car!! It was wonderful to sit and warm by the fire and enjoy the company of the resident cats. We stayed in the main house in Algernon Room and it was beautiful as well as comfortable. This gorgeous Victorian home is very clean, well kept and interesting. We really enjoyed the dinner with the winemaker as well as the scrumptious breakfasts that Sandy painstakingly prepares to perfection. We really felt right at home and feel like we made new friends while we were there.

Room Tip: Algernon Room is bright and sunny with lots of windows and a nice sitting area. There is also a sepa...

I have been going to Berkeley Springs for a number of years staying at various places (starting with Coolfant). I would see brochures about Highlawn Inn and was curious, but didn't think a b&b was for me. Was I wrong! This past December, I changed my plans (the inn was closed for part of the month) so I could stay there. It was wonderful. Sandy was a perfect hostess and serves the best breakfasts in town and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. It is helpful if you like cats and if steep hills scare you, make sure you get alternate directions to the Inn.

I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: While the rooms in the main inn are lovely, you should check out the accommodations in the additiona...

We have been frequent guests at the Highlawn—we have been going for over fifteen years. Sandy and Tim are wonderful hosts and the cats are adorable:) The atmosphere is relaxing and quiet and the breakfasts are "to die for." To us it feels like a home away from home. We highly recommend the Highlawn to anyone who desires a relaxing stay in a small artsy town.

Stayed 2 nights in late December; after snow and through new snow. Wonderful front large bedroom with King and adjoining sitting room. The breakfasts are to die for in quantity, quality and variety. The cats, especially the young female that adopted our room are a true joy. Parking after a snow can be a little challenging, but this old Yankee survived that and negotiating the less steep hills around Berkeley Springs easily.

A previous post claimed a cafe down on the main street (US 522) was as good as Lot 12 and not as pricey and larger portions. Well forget that. The chef's sister desires to sell the property and the sign says: "Closed, not to reopen". Lot 12, as always, was superb as was Tari's, although Tari's no longer has their great French Onion soup; minor disappointment.

Room Tip: Talk to Sandy before declaring on which room you'd like as couple are smaller. All rooms above...

Sandy at Highlawn Inn is a most gracious and competent hostess. This was our second time there and again we found the perfect get-away for a quiet, friendly, delicious, and comfortable respite. Lynn and I could not recommend the Highland Inn any more highly!
