“Generous breakfast included”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2011

Our room on the 4th floor overlooked a beautiful stretch of rolling hills. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable (that's all I ask). Although the shower head was loose it would have been easy to fix (we reported it), the room was overall clean enough. It's not fancy, but it's a great location--near the highway and several chain restaurants. We drove into Beckley just to get a taste of small-town sights. The breakfast room offered lots of choices (cereal, microwave egg sandwiches and quiches, waffles you cook yourself, yogurt, fruit, coffee, toast, etc.). I thought the Internet was fast enough--at least for email.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor with a view to the mountains.

We got a good rate using a coupon from the West Virginia Visitors Centre. Room 211 was supposed to have 2 Queen beds but, in actual fact, the room had 2 double beds which was a disappointment. The room was nicely decorated, the bathroom dated. One of our washcloths looked like someone had used it to polish black shoes. There was a major leak in the shower which soaked the carpet in the hallway. Both these issues should have been caught by the housekeeping staff so we weren’t impressed with them and we did bring these issues to the attention of the staff when checking out. Complimentary internet (very slow) and 24 hr. coffee/cookies were a nice touch. Walking distance to Appleby’s. We’d probably stay again if we were passing through but wouldn’t go out of our way.

Stayed twice on business. I had the same room on both trips. The wallpaper is coming loose at the seams and peeling off the wall, I wish I had a digital camera to show how bad it is but I don't. The hallways smell like socks. Two of the lights don't work. The wireless internet is way too slow. When I asked about the internet speed, I was told it is always slow from the front desk attendant. I stayed 4 nights last week and put up with the problems and I was to stay 4 nights this week but I am checking out tomorrow morning and finding another place to stay. This place is not worthy of the Marriott standards. Don't be fooled.

The Fairfield Inn at Beckley, WVa has a great location for travelers. The property is somewhat dated but it more than makes up with an excellent staff, good breakfast, free internet and overall cleanliness. Good dinner restaurants are nearby.
Suggestion:
Management should consider installing Marriott standard level mattresses and bedding and find a way to allow windows to be opened on the upper floors for fresh mountain air.
Overall the hotel offers excellent value,

Stayed twice, heading to, and returning home, from indiana. Very clean. Helpful/friendly staff. Lovely breakfast choices. No complaints. Will certainly stay again. Highly recommend Berkshires frozen custard shop down the road.....yummo; that alone worth the drive.

Upon arrival we were impressed with cleanliness and room. Then night came with a roaming bus load of children with no supervision. Their chaperones apparently didn't care that they were yelling through the halls, banging doors, running up and down stairwells. The chaperones were part of the noise. There was also a party in the breakfast room with DJ who played loud music until late. Finally at about 3 AM quiet. At 5 it started over with suitcases bouncing down 3 flights of stairs, yelling, running, banging and a bus loading below guest windows. Staff did NOTHING. Told us they were sorry. Not good enough. I suggest you check to see if a group is booked before staying at this place. If the anwer is yes , look elsewhere.

This was a halfway stop for us. I was traveling with my sister and her two dogs. At sign in, we were asked to sign a rather terse pet contract agreeing that the dogs would not be allowed on the elevators with other guests and if we were on the elevator with the dogs and another guest wanted to get on, we would have to get off. Not the warmest of welcomes to say the least. The hotel set up is nice. The lobby/breakfast room/pool are actually on the second floor. We stayed on the low level which had easy access outside for the dogs. When I walked in the room, I could smell the pet deoderizer. But everything was clean, and the pillows/beds were very comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was the highlight! The usual juice machine, coffee, yogurt, bagels, muffins, cereal, instant oatmeal and grits. But they also had prepackaged quiche and egg mcmuffins and a make your own waffle bar. The microwave was a little finicky...I think you had to press 6 for the quiche and 5 for the egg sandwich?
