Although the room was clean, and had newer furniture, it was located behind the hotel in a cinderblock, Motel 6 style building that had doors that open to the parking lot. I showed up with 1 bag and left with 3 bags (1 under each eye!) We stayed two nights and were only able to get maybe 5 hours of sleep each night because of the loud music and noisy people that we could hear until after 2:00 a.m. each night. We also woke up at 7:30 a.m. because of the noisy parking lot right outside our room. The metal stairs to the upper level of our building were filthy and rusty. Also, there were a number of teenagers or young adults that were hanging out in the parking lot outside of our room late at night. Although, hotel security came by and told them to leave, they came back after security had left. The lobby of the hotel is fine. The banquet room where I attended my 30th High School Reunion was attractive. But if you stay at this hotel, insist on staying in a room inside the main building where the lobby is located.
My family had reservations for a block of rooms, and the hotel lost one of them. The hotel was full, and I was brushed off and treated rudely by the manager and staff. I have reasonable expectations--if they're full, they're full. But I couldn't even get a recommendation for another hotel from them. Clearly, they are not capable of dealing with any problems. And they don't care. Why are they still in business? I went to the Holiday Inn Express and was very happy there.
We stayed here for a softball tournament April 22 -24th. They had a special for a two night stay at 20% off. We went to the Townhouse section which the 12 year olds with us called the ghetto section. Fortunately they booked us into a room (this is 6:00 in the evening) which had not been cleaned. (It smelled horrible) We lugged our luggage back to the car and they put us in the Corporate Building which was much better. It has a key card entry, the townhouse section is park at the door. To their credit, the bed, linens and pillows were wonderful But I wonder who the decorator is? Our room had one plaid bed spread and one flowered bedspread that did not even coordinate. The pool was nice. One was closed down for repair. No hottub, you have to go to the Gateway about 2 blocks away for that. No laundry but they did open the one up at the Gateway early for us. Little things can make or break you. We thought the coffee pot was broken, the plugin did not work. We had four people in the room, the maid only left three towels. There were four people in the room and only two coffee cups. I would not stay there again unless I had to...hopefully I won't have to.
I've been to Yakima at least twice a year for the past five years, pleased with the Red Lion Yakima Gateway. The location for our sessions changed and I stayed at this hotel because rooms were blocked there by our professional organization. When I arrived, there was a wedding going on. The room I was given was next to the ice machine hall and had walkways on both sides with noisy people all night. The next morning, I requested to speak with the manager and never got a response. I went back to speak with the manager...still no response. I was provided gracious assistance from one of the front desk people who comp'd me a breakfast. I still had no response from the manager. On the third day, when I was ready to check out, after three days of extremely rude, lack of concern assistance from all but one of the front desk staff members, another manager comp'd my entire stay. That was a major plus for her to do that in my book considering I did not expect that. I was extremely disappointed and have passed on my disappointment to the chief organizers from the professional organization I am associated with. If this hotel was a low end hotel, I would understand how this might be possible. Since it is a business grade hotel, it was truly disappointing. I would not stay here again.
