I am a big fan of Red Lions, but unfortunately, this particular stay only gets an average review from me. I need to reiterate average, which means that it was far from terrible--but not terribly terrific either.
The front desk staff was largely accommodating and totally professional. When I got to my room, I was pleased to find the extras associated with Red Lion--multiple pillows on the king-size bed, extremely comfortable mattress and sheets and
Bath & Body soaps/shampoos. What impressed me the most about my room was the fact that it the LARGEST standard-sized bathtub that I have ever seen. It had a small seat built into it, as well as a surface where you could put your books, breakfast, etc. if you planned to do some reading in the tub or something. Again, the tub was impressive!
Unfortunately, there was a consistent humming noise during my first couple of hours that would not go away; I found out that the culprit was the commode and called the front desk. The person came to me in a timely manner, but proceeded to tell me how all of the rooms are having this issue because of poor original construction and the need for upgrade. Yikes!
I slept very comfortably, but when I woke up and looked for an iron, I found the ironing board--but no iron. I called the front desk again, but no one from housekeeping appeared. Finally, I walked out of my room and saw the maid chatting with another maid with my iron in her hand. She told me that she thought that I was in another room, but didn't seem to be searching for me at all!
Lastly, this place makes a good attempt at being a resort. It has two pools and the rocking chairs on the private balconies are very nice touches. Unfortunately, the building is a maze. I'm not sure who designed it, but it's kind of confusing to navigate if you're just trying to get to the lobby coming from the far end of the hotel. It needs some updating in decor, but isn't totally unpleasant as it is now.
I would consider staying here again, but hope that they would make some touch-ups first!
