“Great for Pet Owners”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2010

Stayed 1 night. Requested a ground floor as travelling with our dogs. The ground floor opens right on to a lawn with a great river walk-way behind. The only thing I would recommend is that if you don't have pets ask if anyone around you does, they didn't seem to separate us from the other guests and having dogs not use to strange sounds like doors closing people talking means the occasional bark - all-in-all a great stay and will be staying there on our return trip through Yakima.

Along with about 100 of my closest colleagues, we traveled to lovely Yakima Washington in the center of the state. It's quite warm there in the summertime, but the warmth of the weather pales in comparison to the warm welcome we received at Oxford Suites. The staff was incredibly accommodating. Many of the rooms overlooked the gorgeous river, running alongside the river was a great exercise path for early risers. The rooms were spacious and quiet (I was in the room closest to the elevator but never heard any noise from it all night long). The accommodations were spectacular for the relatively low price we paid. I'd highly recommend it for business or for pleasure trips.

It was a disappointment to find out that the evening social was out of food items and short of some liquid refreshments and that the coupon thing was confusing. Our room was adequate and relatively comfortable. Did like the fridge with a freezer for our ice bag. The morning menu was very good, but had to wait for items as well as tables needing attention (no one attending to servicing the former guests tables.) Did enjoy the walk outside along the river and the park down stream. When we indicated our disappointment about the evening social we were invited to choose items from the concession which was a good gesture.

Reserved our room 2 months in advance for a non-smoking room. Upon heck-in were given a smoking room. After some time with the manager finally given a non-smoking room. The room was very nice, had a king size bed and a sofa sleeper. Nice balcony with a view of the river. Were given vouchers for an evening reception with beverages and appetizers. Appetizers were a macaroni salad and a bagged lettuce salad, not exactly what was advertised! The breakfast in the morning was good. Pool was decent. Overall the hotel was very clean and would stay here again.

I traveled to Yakima to interview at Pacific Northwest University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the hotel was recommended to me by the admissions office.

It was a great place to stay. They had a shuttle that picked up at the airport, dropped me off at the med school the next day, picked me up from the med school, and took me back to the airport.

They have a continental breakfast in the morning, which includes a few hot items. In the evening, they have an appetizer bar, which is really dinner. Basically they only have one main dish and then some veggies or salad...this is really nice if you don't have transportation. There are a couple of restaurants semi-close....walking distance but a long walk if its cold.

Last time we stayed in Yakima we stayed at this hotel's sister location next door, the Oxford Inn, but when booking online found a room a the Suites for only about $5 more so we took the plunge.

Hotels.com was the only major search engine that found us a room, all the others reported the hotel was booked, so we called the front desk to confirm our reservation, and found the staff had taken the liberty to change our reservation for a room with a king size bed to one with two queens when they say we were traveling with our daughter. Nice...

Some of the perks of this hotel include two free drinks and snacks [a salad bar and some strange fried macaroni and cheese things] in the little restaurant area, and a better breakfast buffet than the Inn. While not the most spectacular breakfast buffet we've ever had, it sure beat the usual continental breakfast of coffee, store bought pastries and dry cereal. They had all of those things plus more like eggs, biscuits, some kind of meat, fruit juices and a broad selection of stash teas.

THe room itself was fairly spacious and clean, and unlike the Oxford Inn, the air conditioners looked brand new and worked quietly. Although we didn't use it is was nice to find a mini fridge and dvd player. The couch pulled out into another bed was it needed. I guess this is what makes these 'suites.'

THe beds were comfortable and we would have gotten a good night's sleep were it not for our neighbor upstairs from us, who apparently had a different circadian rhythm than we did since whoever it was wasnt' using the room for sleeping. From about two in the morning all the way until we went in for breakfast at 9:00am this person moved around the room constantly, and the creaks from the floor and the pounding footfalls kept me from being able to nod off for a few minutes at a time.

After re-reading my Oxford Inn review I think I'm going to be more aggressive with asking the front desk to help remedy problems I'm having with my room. Perhaps they could have asked the person to have quieted down. Plus next time I think I'll try to get a room on the top floor!
