“Very bad experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was my first time visiting Chelan so I was super excited. We went a week ago and the resort was mainly a family place. We went with a bunch of friends and we were the only group of friends/young people. The security gave us a really hard time and kept watching us (we would go out to the balcony and make food on the grill) and we would just see the security guard below watching us for like 20-30 minutes. They took forever to give us anything we needed. We asked for towels before we were going to the pool and literally waited 40 minutes. We went walking around at night on premises (which is totally allowed) not making any noise and the security stopped us, literally interrogated us, made us feel terrible and threatened to send us home when we were all registered to stay there and told us to stop giving them trouble (what the heck?) He then asked where we were from... not sure if that was a racial comment or what but either way it was very inappropriate and the security guards definitely crossed the line.

Overall, the resort itself was nice if you are going to be super super super super quiet and staying with family. Either way their services took forever so come prepared with your own blankets and towels unless you are willing to wait an hour.

We rented a "2 bedroom" beachfront condo which is actually a bedroom + an alcove off the living room with twin beds and an accordion door to close it off. Would be fine for kids, not so much for a second couple. Two tiny bathrooms, clean & basic - almost no counter space, but there is a medicine cabinet for storage (when was the last time you saw one of those?) and good water pressure in the shower. The master bath had a good hairdryer...we also used the one we brought in the other bathroom, and popped a fuse when both were turned on--oops. Nice open, well-equipped kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, washer/dryer in the unit, barbecue grill on the patio - very comfortable place overall. One drawback is that the insulation between floors is not good, so we definitely knew when the folks upstairs were home, and when their kid started running around at 6 am.

We were using timeshare points here for our first time. Two days prior to arrival I called Wapato Point and confirmed our reservation, got my room number and asked a few questions. On arrival it appears they did not have a room for us. The gal at the counter apologized, called a manager and after about 25 minutes did get us a room - 2 bedroom on the beach as ordered. The property is huge - spread out all over the place. It was at least 1/4 mile drive to our room. The buildings are oldish but very well maintained. The property is at a beautiful location and there are many many acres of beautifully maintained green grass. Once in our room we were pleasantly surprised with the beach room. Looking out our windows showed green grass for 100ft, then sand, then the beautiful bay looking at Chelan (room 524). Again, the room is older but well maintained and very roomy. The queen bed was.... hardish...but ok. We were very pleased with the room overall. The second bedroom is a little funky though. It is two twin beds (separated) with a dinky closet and a accordion folding door. I guess it would be ok for kids but not very special for a second couple. The complex has 7 pools I think it is. The inside pool up by the office was very nice and the hot tub was great with mountain views. We brought our own kayaks and spent a good amount of time kayaking the bay and around the point. Overall the 4 day stay was quite pleasant - especially since this was just before Memorial Day and the whole complex was very quiet (nice). I will definitely return. Be aware that only some of the units are on the beach as I have described. Some are up on the hill - not close to the beach at all though they may have a far off view of the water.

Room Tip: The two bedroom beach units (500 series) are great. I am not so sure about the rest.

I've been coming to Wapato Point for over 10 years with my friends. This last trip was pretty classic of the place. The people at the front desk don't seem interested in helping you at all. The condos are a bit dated but VERY clean and well-stocked with everything from towels, to toilet paper to pots and pans, you name it.

I find the layout of the 2 bedrooms with the folding door to be very nice for a group of guys just hanging out for a week. This is probably not the case if you're staying as a couple with another couple, as there is only one true bedroom with a queen bed.

The weather this last week in May was terrible, so we stayed inside a lot and had fires with the free firewood, which is really great. The place is virtually deserted in the off-season, even if you go in mid-May, which we do. I wish the hot tub was open later than 10pm, seems really strange to close so early. The outdoor pools close at 11, but I don't want to go swim outside when it's 55 and raining at 10pm. I want to sit in the hot tub.

I've done some strange things here like build a raft with the driftwood on the beach and trawl around Manson Bay in my raft. Despite the ever-present roaming army of maintenance and security staff, no one has ever bothered me. I have been told to go back to my room for going for a walk in the park after 11pm, which is ridiculous.

The service is pretty poor. The value is poor unless you get a deal (which isn't difficult). The beds are awful. However, the location is amazing, the place is super clean, the grounds are beautiful and if you go in summer the lake is like bath water. We'll keep coming back.

We stayed at this resort last summer and had a good experience. The resort is located in a nice, quiet location away from the crowds of Chelan and they have a security guard at the entrance who checks the parking tags on the vehicles coming in which makes you feel safe. The resort itself is pretty big and units are scattered around the place. Some are very close to the lake while some are up the hill near the tennis courts and may be a little bit of a walk from the lake/ beach.

Our unit was located very close to the lake and we had a great view of the lake from our balcony. The unit was clean & spacious and the beds (including the sofa bed) were comfortable. The house-keeping service was timely and adequate. The main issue with the unit was that the air-conditioning didn't work all that great in the bedroom and would take a long time to sufficiently cool the room.

The beach was nice and the sand mostly soft and our kids loved it. There is playground equipment (like slides, etc.) scattered around near the beach which we liked as well. You could get food/ snacks/ ice-creams nearby as well.

There was a separate children's playground with slides, swings and mini-golf which addedd value to the resort. This pretty much made it a one-stop shop where you didn't have to leave the resort too much. The mini-golf was enjoyable for both kids and adults. Although there is a fee for the mini-golf, we saw other resort guests play after hours for free. :-)

The service at the front desk can be a little hit and miss as some of the staff were very friendly and helpful while some others were a little rude.

Overall we had an enjoyable experience and will visit again if we are in the area.

We spent Thanksgiving day through Monday at Wapato Point again in 2012. We have been there 2 previous times over the Thanksgiving weekend. The units are a little dated and showing their age, but they are well equipped and clean. The staff is very friendly, the resort itself is full of fun things to do. The restaurant and winery is great, and you can't beat the location. We had a great time as usual!

I bid on this unit in an auction a year ago. It originally was for a week in March but the owner let me reschedule to early November.

I agree with other recent reviews. This unit was dated. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The mattress seemed a bit soft. My husband rearranged the bed in the loft to accommodate the bedside tables better.

I would consider staying here again if we could get a unit with the bedroom on the main floor. I didn't really like the stairs to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

We liked the Wapato Cellars tasting room and the restaurant next door. Their desserts were very good. The tasting room host was very nice and easy to talk to.

The stay includes a $10 certificate for the wine tasting. The woman at check-in said we could come back for another, which we did. Be sure to use the certificate.

There were still some leaves on the trees. We took one walk around the grounds. Everything was very well maintained as other reviewers have noted. My husband used the indoor pool. Remember to bring a towel from your room because none are available at the pool.

We hope to return to Wapato Point in the spring or summer.
