“Beautiful spot on the hood canal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014 via mobile

We did not stay in the resort. We went for a day trip to enjoy the beautiful scenery and have lunch. This is a fantastic location. During the summer they have music outside , lovely grounds including a great dock and many activities available such as kayak rentals etc The outside lunch was overpriced but nice. Inside lunch only lasts until 2. Still pricey but better preparation. Beautiful views fr anywhere inside.
I would love to come
Back here and rent one of the cottages. I do believe if you book well ahead you can get better pricing and package deals. Oh yes also dog friendly.

My family and I spent two nights here after four nights of camping in Washington State's National Parks. What an amazing retreat. Alderbrook is peaceful, beautiful, luxurious, and memorable. The kids would play on the grassy knoll while the ukulele player sang fun songs. The adults would sip (strong!) cocktails and eat the best corn on the cob in the business! Nick on the dock rented us kayak and stand up paddle boards so we could explore all the Hood Canal had to offer. Harbor Seals greeted us on our journey in the Canal. I could go on and on about this place, but it's just a great hotel to visit with your family or for a romantic getaway. It may be a bit on the expensive side, but if you're looking for a classic Pacific Northwest retreat, look no further.

This is a great spot for weddings, and romantic or family get-aways.
Lodging is amazingly inexpensive, food and drink are great, and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable!
If you can take the boat tour up the Canal, it's really fun.
Not alot to do if you are there more than a couple days. The hotel is great about giving you a ride into the tiny town (great Mexican Restaurant - Two margaritas).

Alderbrook is a reasonable drive from Seattle and offers the perfect opportunity for a getaway without traveling far. Accommodations are either in the lodge or in cabins with a kitchen. The resort is right on the water and the setting is beautiful. There are water activities, swimming, games on the grass, hiking and just hanging out. We stayed in a cabin and brought our own food although there are options for eating at the resort.

We stayed only one night at Alderbrook but would love to have stayed longer. A quietly elegant place in a beautiful setting on Hood Canal, the resort seemed well-suited for couples, families, and business groups. The day before our arrival I was perusing their website, thankfully, since I encountered a message saying their computer had crashed and lost many reservations. I called, and sure enough, my reservation was among those lost. Not to worry, said Ken, the manager, who not only found rooms available but upgraded us. Yes, the resort is a bit pricey, but our rooms were luxurious and well-appointed, the food delicious, and service impeccable.

Room Tip: Canal-view rooms are more expensive but quite lovely with beautiful views. I wasn't in the other...

We had the pleasure of staying at this property for one night last week. We didn’t know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. Driving from Tacoma took approximately 1.5 hrs. Adequate parking facilities and front end staff were waiting to assist with luggage. Check in was quick, unfortunately, our room wasn’t ready. Our luggage was held while we went to the bar for a drink. As soon as we got our drink, our room was ready and luggage was already there.

Our room was located on the third floor, a corner room overlooking the water. It provided a lot more privacy, no immediate neighbors. Not able to secure a King Bed, we had a Queen. The room was very small, but very quaint. I immediately felt like I was in a lodge, and not in a stuffy hotel chain. The room had a very small TV, desk, vanity area. Not really enough space to store any luggage. A few windows with blinds, and a window sitting bench with comfy pillows. Complimentary tea and coffee amenities. The bathroom was very small, but very rustic. It had a very large round deep tub/shower combo, the outside covered in stone/brick. I was really impressed the way this resort provides toiletries. Instead of having/replenishing multiple small bottles of shampoo/conditioner barely enough for two people, they have big bottles of shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, lotion. Take as much or as little as you want. The quality of the products was also very good. Two fluffy bathrobes and slippers were prefect additions. There is no central air, but a small portable unit is provided that was adequate. The patio was small, but very nice. Two small chairs provided. Despite being a queen bed, we had a sound sleep and were very comfortable.

One night didn’t leave a lot of time to enjoy the other amenities on the property, but there is ample outdoor seating and fire pits. There is a large boat dock, and a section of the lake sectioned off for swimming. Given the opportunity to return, we would like to golf.

Wedding facilities for the reception were nice. The ballroom was a little tight for 15 tables of 9 guests at each table (no fault of the property). It opened up to the outside which had nice lounge chairs and sofas and outdoor heating units. Food was not a highlight. I can’t imagine the task of preparing three different entrees for that many quests, but mine was not edible. On the other hand, my husband’s steak was a very nice cut and cooked to his liking. Reception staff were very prompt to clear dishes. Firework show was excellent, a great finish to a wedding for a lovely couple.

A couple of observations and opportunities for management:
We were at the property for a wedding. When we entered our room, there was a gift bag with a note from the bride and groom. There was also a bucket – I think it was called the “Alderbrook” bucket filled with all kinds of snacks, and a bottle of red wine on the counter with two glasses. Not knowing if this was complimentary or part of the mini bar, I was leaning towards complimentary and part of the resort or being a wedding guest. I immediately tried to locate a price list, none to be found. I then located a small fridge stocked with a couple of spirits and water, again, no price list to be found. I thought I better call the front desk to inquire if the bucket and wine are complimentary or part of the mini bar. When I called to inquiry, the front desk said it was not complimentary and gets the question all the time. Also no price list to be found, but he would be more than happy to tell me what things cost. Really! Not a way to do business and not have published prices in a guest room.

We went to have breakfast at the restaurant at 10:15 am the next day prior to checking out. Without a reservation, we found a table at the lounge/bar area. Immediately ordered coffees and put our order in. Coffee arrived with no spoon, rather straws, no sugar or cream. When we asked for cream, it was presented in a small juice glass. When poured, it spilled everywhere. Finished our coffee and waited, waited for a refill. My husband had to go up and locate someone for our refills. Then we sat, and waited thinking how long does it take to cook some eggs. My husband asked the waitress if she knew how much longer, the reply is they were very busy. At 10:55, we couldn’t wait any longer. We had firm plans to hit the road to catch our ferry. Not able to find a waitress anywhere, we put some tip money down and left. We could tell other patrons were getting frustrated too. It’s just not acceptable to leave guests waiting that long.

In summary, this is a lovely area and resort. A few service issues to work on for management. We would definitely return for a future stay and would recommend to others.

We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience of our property as a wedding guest CARose! Apologies that our "canal bucket" price list was missing from your honor bar and that our team in the restaurant did not provide you with our usual exceptional service. Your feedback is very important and has been shared with our management team.

Who knew there was this gem of a resort, way out in Union? We had a three day conference there for work. The staff were amazing, the rooms were comfortable, the meeting room was great, the grounds were gorgeous and the food was ample and scrumptious! My room did not have a view of the water, it looked out over the cabins, but the trees outside the window made it feel like we were in the deep woods. There were so many activities available to us in the evenings that everyone was happy, from spa, to sitting around the campfire with a drink, to paddle boarding, to hiking and golfing. Everyone enjoyed themselves! My only complaint (since I WAS there for work) is that the wifi left a lot to be desired. It was often difficult to connect, and when you could connect it was slow and frequently the connection would be lost. But I would definitely put this spot on my vacation list where being disconnected would be a bonus!!

Room Tip: If you really want a water view, those rooms are limited. But there are so many pleasant locations o...

We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your business trip to our property, Meagan R, and appreciate the time you took to let us know. It's great to hear that you had too many activities to choose from and not enough time to enjoy them all. We offer a wide assortment of guest activities throughout the year so as to showcase all that our property and Hood Canal has to offer. Thank you for your feedback regarding the Wifi. This feedback has been shared with our entire management team and the issue has already been resolved.
