“Nice if You've Never Been to St Helens”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Having watched the eruption and the amazing recovery of the blast zone over the years, the politically correct presentations leave you with less knowledge than you likely went in with. Otherwise it is a great place to view the blast zone from, and have some shelter from the variable weather you may encounter. If you can, stop at the high bridge a couple miles below and look down in the canyon to see if the elk herd is there! Just don't let the base jumpers give you heart attack like they nearly did to me!

“beautiful view of Mt. St. Helens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

haven't been to Johnston Ridge for awhile. It is one of the best views of Mt. St. Helens you can get. It looks rlight into the crater. Does a good job of explaining what happened. Good place to take out of state visitors

The drive up is beautiful and the visitor's center has great views and explains all about the Mt St Helen's eruption and recovery of the land since then.

“Long car trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Long car trip in from I-5 via country type roads. However, this is to be expected if you are going into the wilderness area. The center is well staffed and ideally suited for children. There is a long hike available below the ridge but you really need to be in shape for hiking. Really interesting to see the old truck, etc. that you may have seen pictures of following the eruption

“Really worth a visit....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

...especially if you are planning a climb up to the top of Mt. St. Helens. Great views, really interesting displays. If you look through the binoculars outside on the plaza on a clear day you can see the hikers standing on top of the rim. Go there the day before your climb to be really inspired!
