This was a fantastic sight to visit. I stayed in Kelso and drove up there on a beautiful day. The trip up was wonderful. I was lucky that it was a clear day and the views were breathtaking. Go to both of the films. One is about the reclaiming of the area by animals and plants and the other is about the eruption itself. Both are worth seeing and different information is given. The displays are interactive and moving. The view of the volcano from here is incredible. Allow yourself time to walk around the see all the views you can. Also attend a ranger talk. They are very informative and tell you even more new facts about the mountain and the area. I was so impressed with all they do. Each of the visitor centers add to the trip, but this one is the best. It opens at 10 AM the lower ones begin opening at 9 AM. If you think you are going to get tired, make it to this one first. It is the longest drive, but worth it.
