The view from this point is great. My husband and I went here in September. Crowds weren't huge, so that was nice. There's a short movie that plays maybe 2 or 3 times an hour that tells you about the eruption and the aftermath and how things are recovering, which is interesting. Great place for kids, families. I believe that you can take a guided hike from here, though my husband and I went off on our own as far as my fear of heights would allow me to go.
SIDE NOTE: For anyone with a fear of heights (or who come from RI where the only vistas we see would be the flat ocean), I recommend having someone else drive here or just take a tour bus. The roads to this point are good roads, but they wind by the sides of the mountains and at some points, I personally had to just read my book while my husband was enjoying the drive.
But non-crazy people without irrational phobias will have a great time and probably have no problem taking a nice hike.
