“Cozy and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

As a woman traveling alone, I'm always conscious of how it feels to be in a new city and a new accommodation. The Branch Colonial House was like staying at the home of good friends. The beautiful old house is nicely restored, the room was clean, and the breakfast was yummy. The nicest surprise was the bed was very comfortable, making for a perfect night's sleep. Special kudos to TJ for his cooking skills and his lattes!

This was a great place to stay as we had our family filling all the rooms, so it felt like we were all at home together and we totally filled the place up. The house is really comfortable and clean. My bed was comfy and my room quiet. I slept great. Robin made us all feel really welcome and took great care of us. The neighborhood is lovely, great place to take walks. It has a nice big porch you can sit out on weather permitting. The food was amazing, really, way beyond my expectations, the french toast was other worldly, so was the mexican egg dish, the quiche, the choc chip scones, oh man, can Robin cook! Yummy! Overall it was a perfect experience for our whole group.
Thank you to both of you for taking such good care of us!
Leslie G.

My stay at the Branch Colonial House was wonderful. My room was nice with a view and an updated TV. The home was decorated wonderfully and was spacious. I felt comfortable reading in the livingroom or sitting out on the porch. Robin's breakfasts are wonderful and delicious. I noticed with other guests that she took care of thier dietary needs. Me, I enjoyed the eggs and bacon.

Simply a great place to stay.

WOW. Words are inadequate to express my wonderful experience at Branch Colonial House. This was my second stay and it could not have been better. Accommodations for nine of my family members were warmly welcomed and fed fabulous breakfasts and in addition a special breakfast was prepared for 21 family members and guests. That french toast gets stand up raving reviews. Everyone asked for a recipe. Robin is a gourmet par excellence and could not have been more gracious. Robin's professionalism was totally evident throughout my stay. Rooms are elegant with views and the comfort in the rooms was beyond reproach including all fresh towels and linens, lighting and plenty of hot water. Robin made it a place to feel at home. A first floor apartment was made available for a family member for ease of mobility. Five STAR all the way around !!!!!!!. A real value. I will tell all my friends and look forward to a return visit. We had a graduation party here and filled the rooms over night as well. It was a perfect place for a big group, with lots of living spaces to hang out and visit. Nice spacious rooms inside and outside too with a wrap-around verandah. Robin hosted a Mexican dinner buffet which was really great. She made sure everyone was having a good time and felt welcome. We enjoyed our large bedroom, clean and well appointed. In the morning we could smell the bacon cooking and knew it was time for breakfast. Robin made a nice breakfast for the bunch of us who stayed the night, and she is a barista too so I had my morning latte'. We felt very much at home.

For the price paid, we were disappointed with what we got. The bed was uncomfortable and had a large central depression that made us both gravitate inward (it also squeeked with every minor movement). Otherwise things were OK, but for ~$200/night we had much higher expectations. The house is on a very busy (and noisy) street. We've stayed at many B&Bs over the years, and this was one of the more expensive, yet we'd rank it a 5 out of 10. Not so bad that we'd ask for our money back, but we won't return or recommend it to friends. We rated it poor due to the price paid and what we received for that price. If we'd paid ~$100-$125 it might be rated average. Unfortunately, we now wish we would have just stayed at a hotel and saved some money (or tried a different B&B).

Dear GoodEatsnStuff,

I am very sorry that you did not have an enjoyable visit with us at the Branch Colonial House. I would have loved the opportunity to make sure the bed was to your liking. I'm not sure of the date of your trip, but all beds were upgraded at the beginning of 2012.

Thank you for your visit

The rooms are clean and spacious and we loved the jetted tub. Robin is an excellent cook and knew how to start our day off with a tasty latte. Location is great as it is only a couple of miles from the proctor district or downtown Tacoma.
