“Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2008

We stayed here while we were in washington for a concert. I cannot say enough about the bellman/valet. He worked the whole weekend, and never frowned. He was always friendly, kidding with us and had a smile on his face. Room was very nice, there was the Tacoma showcase that weekend so it got a big loud outside but that was fine. Great people and nice hotel. The beds were great

Fantastic location in a town that's finally reaching it's potential as a waterfront city. The staff was professional and the rooms are very nice (although they deserve flat screens). Outstanding pool and spa. The attached restaurant Pacific Grill is world class and not to be missed.

This hotel is in a good location, situated across the street from the convention center. Although it does not have a restaurant (excluding breakfast), it is located next to several fine restaurants, while also within walking distance of others. The level of decor and the room was at a four-star (out of five) level. There was a pool and work out room.

Drawbacks: Breakfast is $11/person. (It adds up if you're with a family. At most places, this type of breakfast would be complimentary, but we ended up paying $50 for it.) Also parking is around $15/day.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2008

Strictly business I arrived at 9pm the evening before a 8am meeting the following morning. An associate had recommended this hotel in close proximity to my appointment. I had never been in the Pacific Northwest never mind Tacoma.
Against all odds, in a strange state, strange city and strange rental car, I exited the 705 freeway in a light rain to find myself right behind the hotel. It took me a minute to negotiate to the Commerce side of the building but once I completed that manuever, the valet was there to greet me and efficiently whisked my rental car off for the night.
My check in was easy and quick. The room, adjacent to the elevator shaft, was strategically placed well in back of that shaft and insulated by the bathroom in between so no noise penetrated the bed chamber. I was delighted to find a comfortable, well thought out space. Hence my rating of a 4, a very nice hotel.
I took a point away for minor things but things that were critical to my one night stay and to the purpose of my visit. When I went to iron my shirt the next morning, the iron in the room didn't work necessitating a call to housekeeping. When I requested my car be pulled up to go to my appointment the parking situation lead to it taking almost 20 minutes for the car to arrive. Finally, and beyond the control of the hotel, when I wanted a bite to eat and didn't want to use the overly expensive option of the Marriott's local delivery service (a flat $8.95 for delivery, before the price of the food, gratuity and tax) I discovered there was no convenient nearby location. Forget the dark Quiznos across the street, even Starbucks was closed by 10:00 pm....near Seattle!
The iron was replaced quickly. The valet was apologetic. And I found a small Mexican joint three blocks away. Overall my visit was a pleasant one. But when I return to visit my new client again I will first look for a place which is slightly less expensive, probably a little further away and which doesn't charge $10.95 for the buffet breakfast and $14.00 for the valet service. Holiday Inn, where are you!?

  • Liked — The room was warm, comfortable and well laid out
  • Disliked — Getting the car through valet service

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2007

I stayed here in October for two days while attending a conference. As with most Courtyard properties, it was clean, fresh, nicely laid out and spacious. I ate breakfast at the main level and that was very nice. The staff were friendly and efficient. I also had a drink in the small bar which is open every evening except on Sunday. It too was pleasant.

The area around the hotel is a little quiet compared to Seattle, but there are some really good restaurants nearby. My only reservation about the hotel relates to the fitness center which is bright and clean, but a little small.

Room#339 Polite and courteous staff. Comfortable, clean king room. Nice selection of business services (in-room and lobby business center), cable TV channels and not much hallway noise. One side faces the trolley line (ding ding ding goes the trolley....) the other side faces the high trafficked truck route all night long. "Well this is the Downtown" you know?" we were reassured by front desk staff. Nice selection of comfortable pillows, good soap, fast valet sprinters. An okay stay convenient to not only the airport, but also Mts. Rainier and St. Helens.

Normal Courtyard in downtown Tacoma. I like the Courtyard the best of this type of hotel. Expect clean rooms, internet access that works, good breakfast and comfortable bed. No complants!
