“Steep check for disappointing food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

Though the restaurant is ideally located with lovely views of Puget Sound and the staff was agreeable, the food and wine did not meet our expectations. It wasn't bad but it was absolutely nothing to write home about and therefore I found the bill exceedingly steep.

“Great desserts and view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2011

The Lobster Shop came recommended from a local, so while in Tacoma, we went there for dinner. The menu was extensive with lots of seafood and steaks, but little else. The crab cakes were stuffed full of crab with little breading--just how we like them. The rest of the meal was pretty good. The clam chowder was somewhat bland, but they have an interesting twist of pouring a shot of sherry in it, which was pretty good. The desserts, however, were amazing, and I would recommend going there for the crab cake appetizers, drinks and dessert.

“Good food...scenic location...bring your wallet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2011

We visited the restaurant during the Super Bowl, so for us service was no problem because the restaurant was quiet. In my opinion, the food quality was very good but a bit on the expensive side. Aside from the restaurant there is little else nearby other than more restaurants, so if dinner out is to be followed by another activity (movie, concert, play, etc.) plan accordingly.

“Rude/slow service mediocre food at best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2010

Don't be fooled by the 100% rating (there writing there own reviews)

My wife and I stopped in after scuba diving near by, and admittedly were not dressed for dinner (shorts and t shirts which seemed to be an issue) we were not allowed to sit in the dining room because it was "closed for seating" until 4:00 p.m. (just 11 minutes later) and yet several parties were seated before 4:00 while we were waiting for outr waitress?

The lobster bisque was recommended so I asked to try a taste (luckily) it in no way resembled lobster and was not edible (almost peanut butter thick and ketchup like). the clam chowder was edible but canned and not restaurant quality.

It took 30+ minutes to get our apps which were bay shrimp cocktail SMOTHERED in canned sauce and steamed clams that were ok and almost worth the slightly high happy hour prices. Other diners came in, sat down, and were finished eating there food before we got anything to eat. When we asked the manager (the waitress had been absent for 25 minutes) about our order he told us our food took longer to make than the people next to us (did they need to catch the shrimp?)

I am from Maine, love seafood and have dined all over the world.

This place is to be avoided.

“Perfect seafood restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2010

We ate at the Lobster Shop while on vacation. It was a little more expensive than some of the other seafood places we ate at but it was worth the money. The menu was extensive including many daily specials. Our salmon and halibut were nicely prepared. The sides were generous. If possible sit outside overlooking the water. However the inside portion has nice views. The service was great. Our server Ken made sure everything was wonderful. Don't forget dessert. We had a brownie tower that served at least two.
