“Great Mediterranean Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Went there on a Friday at about 5:30pm. Only one table was full when we got there but then...in a few minutes all tables were full. I had chicken kabobs with Greek salad and rice. Everything was so tasteful. Each bite was a surprise. Husband had the red curry. Very tasty. Owners waited on us and visited each table. Very personable. We loved it and will make it one of our top spots to go. The dressing on the salad was the best. Yum. May have to go again tonight.

“Quality ingredients and preparation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

My wife and I really enjoyed dinner at Ammar's in September, 2013. She had shrimp kebab with a green salad and herbed rice ($13.99), and I had a lamb gyro with a Greek salad and herbed rice ($11.99). Both dishes included small samples of grilled vegetables and were excellent, and the waitress was great: relaxed, helpful, very pleasant. She even brought, at no charge, a small crock of tzatziki sauce, which I like to drizzle on gyros. If we lived in Tacoma, this would be a weekly destination.

By the way: they have a full bar that includes around six beers on tap (try the Irish Death, a smooth, malty, dark ale -- $5). They also feature interesting music, as one other reviewer noted: it sounds a little like new age, but not always.

“Best food in a long time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

This food is excellent and the quality is great. The dishes we had were fresh and included interesting combinations of spices. We left feeling satisfied and well fed. In this day and age, that isn't so common. Outdoor seating is available too. The atmosphere is unique and the location misleading, but it would be hard to find better food. We had the steak and the kabobs - the salad itself that came with the steak meal was flavorful and fresh. The steak is marinated in herbs that include rosemary, which is not my favorite. I ordered it anyway and it was cooked to perfection and very savory. The kabobs were also excellent. I highly recommend this place.

“Almost hit the spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Despite the best efforts of the really good staff, and the interesting version of classic Mediterranean dishes, this place just misses the spot somehow!
We've eaten Greek food everywhere including Greece. The calamari is OK, remember I'm the Calamari guy! Too much coating for the small amount of tube steak but has adip that is as good as the standard tsatsiki.
The lamb Gyros on the other hand was excellent. The lamb kebabs where cooked as ordered but tasteless and tough.
And why don't Greek or Mediterranean restaurants have retsina anymore. Even the owner didn't seem to know what it is and he is from Greece.
The room is very nice but abut sterile by Greek restaurants, at least it's not all white and blue.
Probably will go back, but just for a good gyros

“Don't waste your time anywhere else!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

As a hidden place by the Tacoma Dome, this restaurant is a must. Some of the greatest food around, great staff, and great service! Had the lamb Gyro, and I could eat five more afterwards!
