“Delightful Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2009

Amanda at the front desk was delightful. Room very large, comfortable, clean, and well appointed. Although the property is a bit older, it was such a nice visit. I choose a bit older properties as the rooms tend to be larger and we can move about the room comfortably. This was no exception. Room was very quiet (asked for a room on the non-freeway side after reading other reviews) and slept very well in the very large, comfortable beds. I would heartily recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area.

Shilo was easy to find... close to our destinations, The Glass, The Tacoma Art & Wa State History Museums. Friendly, courteous staff. Clean, quiet rooms. Was terribly worried of noise from other rooms... there was none of that...The restaurant across the street has a nice selection on the menu and reasonable prices. The complementary breakfast was not just the usual pastries and coffee. Fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, microwavable breakfast burritos and you could even make your own waffle, (my granddaughter loved that!). We swam in the pool which was refreshing.

I live there for 3 months for business! So really got to know the hotel and staff. It's a little older but cozy and charming. The staff is worth their weight in gold. Very kind and helpful. They bake cookies daily and have great breakfasts too. Pool and work out room is great.

I took my wife to Tacoma to attend the American Idols concert. We decided to stay in town rather than drive home and we chose the Shilo Inn. We were greeted warmly by a very friendly and accomodating staff. This is an older hotel and compared to other Shilos we visit, it could use a little sprucing up. However, it was obvious the room was well cared for. The beds were very comfortable and we both enjoyed the breakfast next morning.

We stayed in this hotel for five days while my son attended a football camp in Tacoma. We put the pool, hot tub and steam room to good use while we were there, and they were terrific. (We did not use the sauna). The workout room has Precor equipment - one treadmill, one elliptical and one Universal set. The laundry room has two washers and two dryers, though one washer was out of order throughout our stay.

The free breakfast was plenty for our needs - cereals, breakfast burritos, muffins, bagels, etc. There is an Elmer's Restaurant across the street with a full-service bar and a good menu (And they deliver a short menu to the hotel for breakfast lunch or dinner from 8:00 am-9:00p.m. each day. There is also an IHOP, Burger King and Jack in the Box. There is little to no retail shopping (such as a grocery store or pharmacy, say) within walking distance. The neighborhood felt safe when I went walkabout during the day, but I think it gets a little dicey further down the street. There is a pharmacy next to the Hustler Hollywood boutique (which seems to sell clothes).

The room had two queen beds, a microwave, a mini-fridge and blow dryer. All was clean, and they gave us extra pillows and an extra, very fluffy, very clean comforter/blanket upon request.

The downsides? This is a budget hotel, so everything, while clean, is a little shabby. The elevator creaks and groans alarmingly. The hallways may have been in style in the 70s or 80s. The tub did not necessarily drain at top speed. Housekeeping comes by at random time, so it was difficult to predict when it was best to be out of the room (which probably matters more during a longer stay like ours.)

All in all, it's a basic hotel with surprisingly nice amenities staff members who seem like they are genuinely concerned about whether your stay is pleasant, and it's perfectly serviceable. We'd stay here again.

Martha, May, J.J. and Akenese where all very cordial and helpful. The holtel was clean and the pillowtop beds very comfortable. The pool and spa areas where all clean and the spa tub was nice and hot. It is accessable to many good resturants and close to shopping. We stayed there last week and came back again just for a nice time. I would recommend it I would liked it even better if the HOTEL would use fitted sheets so the beds stay together when you open them. Other than that everything is clean and everyone does their best to make yourstay great. Chocolate chip cookies every evening baked fresh. Fruit and popcorn alway available and a good continental lbreakfast. with waffles.

My family and I stayed at the Shilo in Tacoma last month and I cant say enough about the hospitality and service. My husband and I were amazed at how accomidating the staff was, our two kids loved the pool and lobby ( snacks included), and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Its is usually difficult to travel with two small children anyway, but the staff at this particular hotel were so patient and sweet. I will remember, the next time I come to visit family in Tacoma, to book our room at this hotel. Thankyou, every one at the Shilo in Tacoma, for making our week so special!
