I checked the reviews and booked a room at the Shilo Inn, in Tacoma, Washington but was sorely disappointed with what I found. If you check other reviews that I've written, you'll see that I'm not super picky and I've never walked out of a hotel before but we did leave this one. It wasn't one big thing but, rather, it was a lot of little things that combined to the point that we moved to the Hampton Inn, down the road.
The hotel parking lot and lobby were fine but we were very disappointed with the room. Here were our complaints:
1. Carpet in hall was dirty
2. Room had a very unpleasant smell.
3. The bedding was worn and faded.
4. The bathroom door didn't latch.
5. There was a small hole in the ceiling.
6. The air conditioning alternated between a strange clunking and a high pitched whine.
The over-all quality was more what you would expect of a $65 or $75 room - not $107 per night. But we probably would've stayed had the front desk offered us something, anything in the way of assistance or an apology when we went to them with our issues.
They did not offer to put us into a different room.
They did not offer to check the room to see if anything could be done to address the problems.
They didn't offer to reduce the rate.
They did not apologize for the fact that we were not happy with the room.
Instead, the desk clerk told us "that is a very nice room." The complete lack of concern and help was the thing that finally caused us to walk away.
I don't recommend this hotel but if you decide to stay here, do a little checking on the price. We got a rate of $107 + tax per night. The rate on the Shilo Inn website was higher but there was a lower rate on hotels.com and the reservation line was able to match the price.
