“Beautiful, quite place in downtown Tacoma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Lovely art work in a clean and functional space. Restaurant had good food. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. Attended a conference and stayed in the hotel. Hotel Murano is centrally located in downtown Tacoma, so it was easy access to museums and restaurants.

Beautiful glass artwork, friendly staff, quiet rooms, good food (at good prices), and a great location. Would definitely stay here again. This is one of the few places I have visited that actually looks like the pictures posted on the website.

Convenient to freeways, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, good food and very comfortable rooms. This hotel is a no-brainer when it comes to selecting a hotel that is more vacation than business and still at a reasonable prices.

Despite the "high rise" bones of the building itself, the service, staff, and art give the property a more intimate feel than I would have dared to expect. Although I do not consider myself a person who lounges in the Lobby of a hotel, I found myself just wanting to stay in the hotel and check out the art, and enjoy the ambiance of the lounge area and a wonderful glass of wine and appetizers. I didn't have much in the way of expectations for Tacoma, but this is a beacon of civility in an otherwise drab town!

This is is a wonderful hotel. The only thing that prevents it from getting five stars is that the restaurant closes fairly early—the entire city does—but they do have room service. The hotel is beautiful, a good value and the staff is not only friendly it's also efficient and knowledgable about the area. Staffers will go the extra mile for you, from a sufficient supply of umbrellas to finding a place to eat after 10:30.
Tacoma is stunningly good for food, which kind of shocked us. There's not much else to offer, save for a few galleries and the drive to Seattle, but i would argue that the Murano is worth the extra travel time, especially if you're not pressed for every minute. i don't say that easily. Each floor has its own design and it works. It doesn't feel forced. The other lone issue; it would be cool if the gift shop sold newspapers and a few more essentials. That's all.

Room Tip: The brunch is very good. It might be worth it to spend the money and get access to the fairly contin...

I gave this hotel a 4 because of the property. The surroundings are dire and you definitely need a car. I stayed here when I had a placement at the hospital nearby. The property was very clean and the people were nice. I got free valet parking.
The only negative was that they got my food order incorrect a few times on different days.
It was comfortable.

I just burned my mouth on my fries…that’s a GOOD thing. You see, room service delivered them. When’s the last time you got hot fries from room service? Just one example of the dedication to service I’ve experienced here. As you might gather from other TA contributors, Hotel Murano is eclectic – a little boutique-y, a little art-y, VERY fun, but above all, comfortable and service-oriented, from the front desk to the spa to the restaurant to room service. Impressive.
Rooms: comfortable bed and chaise lounge (that one was a surprise!), nice linens and pillow menu. The “goodie box” (with drinks, snacks, toiletries, and other items for purchase) explains the 21-and-above check-in requirement; make sure you look through the non-edible choices for some couples-friendly fun! Arty touches like dimming colored-glass-base lamps and lots of glass or mirrored surfaces easily call attention away from slightly battered wood bases leftover from the Sheraton days. Modern colors and a white leather-like headboard (spotless!) complete the room. I’m on the 14th floor and have a fabulous view of the city around the Tacoma Dome, along with a portion of the river. In the (also spotless) bathroom, there’s a really cool turquoise glass countertop, modern fixtures, and Aveda products. Love it!
If you want free Wi-Fi, join the Stash program. I did so via email on the first day of the conference I was attending in the hotel, and had fast internet service on both my smart phone and my laptop the rest of my stay.
I booked a 90-minute massage and additional “foot rescue” service in the spa on site; hotel guests receive a 10% discount. My colleague had the same spa services thanks to the manger’s willingness to call in an extra massage therapist for her (we pre-booked by about a week). We had drinks delivered during our treatments, and later I had the aforementioned room service (with a grilled cheese Panini and an interestingly-flavored tomato soup to go with my to-die-for garlic fries). Everyone I encountered was truly interested in making sure I was happy with the services and products I was receiving – the friendliness and great attitudes of all the staff were the icing on the cake of a great stay.
The only negatives are very minor (at least to me): my room has an LG flat-screen digital tv screen but only analog service; the mini-bar key must be picked up at the front desk, but when I checked in, no one told me that. Since water and wine are both available in the “goodie box” it didn’t really matter, but if you want liquor or soda, or to put your own stuff in the fridge, make sure you ask at check-in.
I would recommend requesting a high floor because I did notice some traffic noise (even on the 14th floor), and while I didn’t notice any noise from the rooms on either side of me, it was pretty easy to hear doors and movement in the hallway and on the floor above. This settled down by 10 pm or so, but it’s not a weekend, so that might be a consideration if such noise bothers you. Of course, that’s the case almost anywhere these days! Overall, this has been a great stay and I’d definitely stay, eat, and spa here again!

Room Tip: request a high floor because of traffic close by
