This is one of the most disappointing experiences I have had. Their advertisement is incorrect. There is no room service, not even a soda machine on the property. The rooms are bland at best, lack luster, and bad uneven floors, I fell twice in 2 days. Bathrooms are outdated. Completely under whelmed.. will not stay again, regardless of the price.

If you are looking for modern, continental breakfast and great WiFi, this is not the hotel for you. If you want downtown, walking distance to restaurants and theater, this may suit you. The hotel is definitely in need of capital improvements and some loving care, but it suited our purposes well. The 3 rooms our families occupied were clean, comfortable and large. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful and the housekeeping personnel were attentive and seemed genuinely happy to serve us. It's my understanding that a bank now owns the building, which may explain why the hotel is in need of work and upgrading. The hallway carpeting is old and appeared dirty, but I think it was just worn out. The room carpeting was much better, and I always wear socks or slippers anyway.

If you want a downtown location at a very reasonable price, give it a try. I gave it an overall "very good" rather than "excellent because of the apparently overall rundown condition.

Room Tip: Hotel sits on major downtown streets and intersection. Best to be on the 3rd floor. The windows are...

From the outside this hotel could easily pass as another dive-inn. Not because there is anything run down or poorly designed, but because the lobby is about the size of a small bedroom. But once you get in the elevator and go up a floor, it open into this beautiful multi-story atrium with a wonderful warmth - dark brown wood walls, comfortable seating, impressive book cases and much more. The rooms are very nicely decorated with the most modern facilities and excellent bathrooms. You suddenly switched from a 2-star to a 4+star accommodation.

The next exciting adventure is when you take the elevator down to the deep basement speak-easy restaurant with wonderful food and funky decorations. This entire place is a true hidden gem only a block away from the famous Davenport Hotel, but a bit more fun to experience.

We booked a night to break up a long drive from Canada. After 8 hours at the wheel, we pulled up to the hotel. Right from the start, I knew it was a huge mistake. With my wife and son in the car, the hotel is in a very sketchy part of town. Just not safe feeling. There is no hotel parking and you have to park on the street. In a bad part of town, just not a good move. I went into the lobby and it felt run down, almost flop house like. I let the wife and son wait in the car with the doors locked. I got the key to the room and did a quick survey. We booked online and was non refundable. The room was small, dirty, and overlooked a back alley. Within 15 minutes, could see it was not clean, felt unsafe, the building was run down. Just got back in the car and left eating the cost of the room and just finishing the last 4 hours of the drive. Just a horrible experience. Made it home exhausted and disappointed, but at least we were safe and able to sleep in a clean bed. Don't book this hotel.

Room Tip: For a good room, book another hotel.

I stumbled upon this gem on a roadtrip, it is a fantastic historic hotel, rich with history and detail, conveniently located downtown. The rooms are spacious, clean, with high ceilings. I only stayed one night and had free parking on the street in front of the hotel. The hotel has a great atrium with free gourmet coffee all day. Checking in the front desk staff was super friendly with great suggestions on places to eat and drink. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

This renovated small heritage hotel (reputedly once a bordello) is great value and conveniently located just across the street from the Fox Theatre -- a spectacular Art Deco restoration and home of the Spokane Symphony. Next door is a pleasant restaurant and lounge for pre or post performance libations and eats - called Scratch.

At the Montvale the beds are comfy, reception staff congenial, the usually amenities clean and well tended, and the WIFI free. Complimentary coffee and tea are available in the common lounge/atrium where you can enjoy the eclectic furniture and art work. Shades of grandparents attics perhaps.

Sure the carpets on the stairs and common areas could use a little TLC. But the owners have upgraded the important things and offer value for money.

Have been here twice and was pleased with our stay on both occasions and will return.

Room Tip: Ask staff about how to find the best overnight on street parking (some variation by day of the week...

The Montvale is a well renovated hotel in a late 19th-century building on the west side of downtown Spokane, right across the street from the Fox Theatre (the home of the Spokane Symphony). We've stayed there twice, and been happy both times. The rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. This past time, we booked a room with two queen beds, which was very large and worked well for a family of three. We appreciated the friendly check-in staff and well-appointed facilities. The free wifi was also a plus. We were able to find free on-street parking, and the front desk staff was clear with us that there was both free on-street parking until 8 a.m. as well as parking in the hotel's lot for a charge. Compared to the other options in downtown hotel (like the Davenport), the Montvale is very affordable for what you get.

Overall we had a very positive experience. We only had two complaints: 1) the noise from the street and restaurant / club below (noisy on a Saturday night, lots of kids on the street shouting, and the windows are single-paned and don't close very well), and 2) the cleaning service, which had some minor flaws. The cleaners came in and made one of our two beds (both of which had been slept in), and changed the towels, but that was it. One of us had been walking barefoot outside the day before, then had left a single dirty footprint that dried on the floor in the washroom before anyone realized. The next day, after the cleaners had been in, it was still there, along with some fuzz / dirt that was on the floor the day before. I can see not washing the floor (although you'd think they'd at least swipe at the dirty footprint), but it was weird that only one bed was made.

Otherwise, we were very happy with our stay at the Montvale, and would stay again.

Room Tip: If you can get a room that doesn't face on the street, that's best.
