My husband and I just returned from a two night stay at the Montvale. We were disappointed. The room had stained fabric on the chair and soiled carpeting. You could hear bed noise and foot steps from the room above, due to squeaky floors and an old building. The second floor lobby was a nice place to gather.

Room Tip: choose one away from street noise

Terrible location; no amenities; unprofessional help; noisy; broken down furniture (just because it's old doesn't make it classy!); run down neighborhood; bad parking.

It is 90% of the reason I will never return to Spokane. Ugly place, ugly people. Apparently the "decent" people climb up to the "skywalk" to get away from places like the Montvale.

In Europe this would be a 1 or 2 star tourist trap. In fact the word Hotel is misleading--hostal would be a better fit for the service and lack of quality and amenities. How about a 14" TV! And 1/3 of the channels were blocked, including HBO, the only premium channel--inspite of their advertisement about having premium channels!

Then to top it off at check out they had the gall to charge an additional fee because the rate I paid through Hotel.com "didn't match their rates!" Crooks!

Room Tip: DON'T waste your time here!! It's just BAD waiting to get WORSE!

I called this hotel today to book a room in the future. I called and the employee said she was caught up checking people in and out so couldn't take my reservation. She promised to call me back within a few minutes. Four hours later, there was no return call so I called again. This time I was put on hold for 10 minutes (same reason) and hung up. Finally, a return call happened but it was too late, I took my business to another hotel. She apologized but immediately got defensive when I indicated that a simple call and booking for a future date shouldn't be tough. She hung up. Very unprofessional and not service minded. Give your business to another hotel.

The person at the front desk was so bad we left and stayed at another hotel. We will probably still have to pay even though we did not stay because it was non-refundable. We have stayed here 4 or 5 times in the past and liked it, but never again if we are forced to pay for the night we did not stay. We are reasonable people and not particular. The person at the front desk on June 14th 2014 at 6 pm was not reasonable and extremely rude.

This is an old creepy building with a thin veneer of polish. The staff is very inhospitable and will upcharge you for sneezing. They do not abide by their own policies but think you should keep paying for terrible service. Don't waste your money on this place. I did.

When you book a room in an historic building, don't expect cookie cutter amenities. I just love the feel of lovingly worn furnishing, Art Deco lighting and tall ceilings. The sky light gave the top two floors warm lighting.
I found the room large and comfortable, the bathroom was huge.
