“Worth the mile off the interstate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

It got good reviews so we decided to get off the interstate and give it a try. Good decision! Clean, very quiet, secure parking, limited free breakfast, affordable. We would definitely go back. Good discount for AAA too.

Since our daughter lives south of Spokane and our son lives in North Spokane and both work at Sacred Heart Hospital, this hotel has been most convenient for all of us. They have stayed there when the weather was severe so they could get to work the next day. Over Christmas, with a family reunion in town, we decided to take advantage of the holiday special. Our room was very clean and since we stayed four nights, the rate couldn't be beat. We loved having a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot in the room, which was spacious. Plenty of hot water and a comfortable tub too. There is shampoo in the room but no conditioner so bring your own. We had some trouble with the toilet and when we talked to the manager about it he was responsive. I think the mattresses need to be replaced soon. Other than that, it's a nice hotel. We will be back.

We booked a stay here because we were visiting a friend in a hospice house just down the street. (The hotel is also just across the street from both Sacred Heart Hospital and Children's Hospital.) The staff was kind enough to give us a hefty "medical" discount. It was very quiet, very clean (both the hotel at large and the room), and the front desk staff (as well as the General Manager) were very friendly. A continental breakfast is included, as well as 24 hour coffee and tea. The beds are soooo comfortable - we only wish we could have taken them home with us! The pillows, however, definitely had something to be desired; i.e. they were flat and hard. (You may want to take along your own, if you don't want to chance waking up with stiff necks, like we did.) We had a well-lit, tastefully decorated, very clean, double queen room that had a (slightly noisy) refrigerator, a (slightly noisy) heater, and a microwave. We appreciated that there was a vanity and a mirror outside of the bathroom. Be aware that they don't leave toiletries in the room - you have to ask for them. This was not appreciated, especially as I realized it only after undressing and getting ready to step into the shower and finding no shampoo......and the only soap was the tiny, tiny bar that we had mostly used up to wash our hands. The hotel does have 24-hour staffing, free wi-fi, a guest laundromat (coin-op), valet laundry service, a hair dryer, iron & ironing board, a La-z-boy recliner in each room, elevator, and very important to us - it is pet friendly. The hotel is also very close to restaurants and entertainment, is totally non-smoking, and offers FREE popcorn every night! We enjoyed our stay at the Madison Inn and we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor are best if you have a pet with you. You only have to walk down the ha...

Other TA reviews said it was hard to find and it sure was. But it was a good choice for me - the only place in a 2 week driving trip where I could get a decent room for under $100. Not far from the interstate but not too close either. Since it was near a hospital I was worried about ambulance or helicopter noise but I never heard either, even though it was a Friday night. Desk staff were very friendly. The room had some nice amenities including a fridge and microwave.

This small hotel sits behind Spokane's hospital district (GPS or a detailed city map will be helpful in locating it). Very walkable area, both down the hill, to downtown, and up the hill, to Manito Park (a classic Olmstead design from the turn of the last century; fabulous Rose Garden in season) and residential districts from same era, both mansions and middle-class houses.

Room Tip: 3rd floor is lobby level; view rooms are on the top, 5th floor.

Upon arrival, the staff was difficult to deal with they were slow and not sure. It was close to the hospital which was great. We received our cards and went for about a 15 minute ride on the elevator. We started on the 3rd floor and went all the way to the 1st floor. We had 2 sometimes 4 people there with the intention of renting another room. They would show up in the morning to go to the hospital to visit and stay the night in the other room but before we could get another room the maids would report us to the managers who would call the second we got back to our room. " The maids are paid spies lock up your stuff."If they only clean as hard as they snooped. Its funny they are nonsmoking but they open the window to the 1st floor hall where the smoking area is located. So the floor stinks of winston and gpc cigarettes. Over all I would stay away next time. It's an overrated motel 6. The one good thing is its location. P.S. if you drive a fiat or smart car your fine all others park in hospital parking garage. It will save you dents and dings on your ride.

TMIManager, General Manager at The Madison Inn by Riversage, responded to this review, September 20, 2012
Dear Travelers: Housekeepers at The Madison Inn take pride in maintaining a very clean hotel and they guard the privacy of our guests - it is not our policy to 'snoop'.

If this guest had came to me with his other complaints while he was here, we could have moved him to a different room and accommodated his requests.

My daughter and I decided to make a last minute shopping trip to Spokane and decided to scope out Trip advisor for their accomodation recommendations. This hotel is a gem! Probably the cleanest hotel that we have ever stayed at including some five stars in other cities. The room was awesome with all the ammenities that you would expect, such as air conditioning, blow dryer, iron, plus a small fridge and microwave. The two beds were comfy and there was a nice lazy boy chair to relax in.When we were there it was super quiet . A continental breakfast with a good variety was included and coffee and teas are available 24/7 . The lounge area has nice tables for breakfast and nice chairs to relax in.They do have a work out room on the second floor and on the fourth there is apparently a quiet area to relax plus vending machines. We did not take advantage of these amenities . The staff were great! If you ask they will give out discounts for the two restaurants that are walking distance from the hotel up the hill. The Mexican restaurant had good food but there was far too much food for one person. Next time I would order one portion for two people. There are a couple of restaurants next door, but we did not try them. The hotel is a five minute drive from downtown. The staff recommended parking the car at the big parkade downtown and it was cheap, 8 dollars for the whole day. Centrally located you can explore all of the shops, restaurants and sites close by .The parkade is accessible from inside the mall until very late in the evening. Best to pay before you go out at the kiosk though, the paying line at night gets very long. We loved the city of Spokane and will definately come back to this hotel!
