Room was clean, little bit outdated. When we checked in , we were under the impression by the staff that we got the continental breakfast, as they pointed to where we should go to the biuffet in the morning. As we got there, there were no signs with instruction, just your typical continental breakfast with stale bagels/fruit/eggs. when we sat down and started to eat, we were informed that if we had not upgraded our room to include the breakfast we would have to pay 9 each for the pathetic BF. Since we were not informed about the $15 room upgrade at any time, we got to pay 20 dollars for a stale bagel! I will not stay again because this is deceiving, and the room is expensive enough, it should include stale bagels.

Rooms was well designed and very clean. We had a great view of the Riverfront Park from our room. The bed was deliciously comfortable.

I can recommend this hotel, with one caveat.

Pros:

I My room was clean and comfortable. Other people have commented that their rooms' decor was dated, but my room had a modern plasma TV and new furnishings. My bed was really comfortable. It looked as though my room had just been refurbished.

II The staff were all very friendly to me, and seemed glad I was staying here.

III Location: Centrally located downtown. and next to the site of the 1974 World's Fair, which has now been turned into a city park. The park is filled with amusement rides, mostly for kids under 10, and is well enough maintained that it's a good place to jog. This hotel is a great place for families with small kids, because the amusement rides on the former World's Fair grounds could keep the kids entertained for a while.

I went across the street to Azteca, where I had a wonderful dinner. Warning: portions at Azteca are huge, so try not to fill up on chips and salsa before your food comes! I did the breakfast buffet at the hotel, which had a lot of healthy and unhealthy choices.

Con: As others have said, parking is a ripoff - $16 / night. Also, the entrance to the garage is about 200 feet from the hotel entrance. It was a real hassle to lug my bags to / from my car.

The hotel garage also serves the Spokane Convention Center. In order to remain competitive with other hotels that have free parking, this hotel needs to work out a deal with the convention center to reduce the rates guests park, especially because many guests arrive after the convention center has closed for the day, and depart before events there begin, so hotel guests are occupying spaces that would otherwise be vacant.

This hotel has nice rooms, wonderful employees, and a great location. If only the hotel management could resolve the problems with parking.....

Outside of hotel was very nice. Clean, classy, and appeared to be accessible. Parking garage was disconnected from hotel and had to drag our luggage by ourselves over parking barriers. Staff was somewhat friendly. It was nice to be offered warm cookies when we checked in. The rooms appeared to be clean enough at first but complementary shampoos, conditioners, and lotions had been used and were half gone. There was green and yellow mold in all crevaces of the shower tile. The counter tops had cracks in them as did the ceilings and walls. The linens actually smelled as if they had not been changed since the last occupant. The locks on both the rooms were broken and we had a difficult time getting in and out of the rooms. I would actually caution anyone against staying at this hotel!

We reserved a stay at this hotel through Priceline, and got a decent rate. We decided that we needed to stay an additional night and had to make an additional reservation through Priceline. Theoretically, we would have to change rooms between nights, and so I called the Doubletree central reservations line and requested to combine the reservations into one. The reservation agent refused, saying they do not do that for Priceline customers. The next day I contacted the hotel directly, and encountered the same problem. In the same call, I requested to at least have a non-smoking room (which, luckily, we received) for both reservations. The hotel agent refused to make this guarantee.

Upon checkin, the front desk employee had no problem combining our reservation (why was it so hard on the phone?). We did have to have our keys reactivated on the second day, but that's it.

Otherwise, the hotel was very nice for what we paid. The room was adequately spacious and clean. Free wireless internet was available (a surprise at any Hilton-branded hotel). We ate breakfast at the restaurant both days, and found the food to be both good and affordable, with many healthy selections available. The hotel lobby also sports a Starbucks espresso stand, which has limited hours, but is a nice amenity nonetheless.

They do charge $16/night to park, which is ridiculous for Spokane, so be forewarned.

Overall, I'd say we were satisfied, especially having paid less than half the off-the-rack rate.
