While working our way back up the coast to Canada, we overnighted at the seriously historic Shelburne Inn. This was our second visit, which tells you that it's a favorite. We stayed in a room on the second floor with a little balcony overlooking the herb garden. As others have already noted, the website photos give you an accurate portrayal of each eclectic room, in which some kitchy and/or contemporary furnishings are mixed in with great antiques. The owner/manager is a fun character who goes out of his way to make guests feel welcomed and looked after, and all of his staff fit the same mold. They were all terrific. A huge plus are the attractive dining room and bar. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant the night we were there, and then adjourned to the bar where, it being a Friday night, we were lucky enough to listen to a fantastic jazz pianist. Lovely! Good breakfasts, included in the room cost, are also served in the restaurant. The only negative is that the hotel is only feet from the road, not in spacious grounds or in a garden. But that might make it altogether too perfect!

Room tip: Another reviewers suggestion that you get the best room you can afford is a good one. The $20 (?) more we spent was definitely worth it, specially as our room had its own little sitting area at one end, not to mention a balcony. Can't remember the name of the room, but it was on the second floor overlooking the herb garden.

My wife & I spent 3 nights at the historic Shelburne County Inn in Seaview, WA over the Valentine's/President day weekend. We loved our Victorian-style room, complete with 4-poster bed & claw-foot tub/shower, along with a semi-private deck right off our room. Included in the cost of the room was a delicious "gourmet" breakfast in the beautifully decorated dining room. The beach was a short walk away, with miles of sand & paths to walk or bike. To top everything off, the weather during our stay was magnificent!

Room tip: The inn's website offers pictures of each room, along with an accurate description of each.

The Shelburne Inn is comfort and ambience at its best, but we spent an anniversary in the Audubon Cottage at the inn's "annex" at China Beach and were simply blown away by the combination of rustic charm, elegance and luxury. Impeccably clean and endearingly quirky, the two-story cottage has totally stunning views of the mouth of the Columbia from Ilwaco to Cape Disappointment. We watched herons, eagles, shorebirds and ducks, crab-boats and trawlers, seals and driftwood, and we could have watched them from the hot tub on the porch, but a jacuzzi in the bathroom was more inviting in freezing weather. Furnishings were more than comfortable; antiques and contemporary were combined expertly, with art and stained glass that carried out the Audubon theme. A wall-mounted big-screen TV allowed for movie- or TV-watching if we'd wanted it but was inobtrusive. The place is beautifully constructed and there's even a guide to all the local and restored woods used in the structure and fittings. It's a simply incomparable place to be, and on top of it all, there's the incredible restaurant service at the inn.

Room tip: The inn itself is full of charm but if you want drop-dead luxury in an amazing location, go for the cottage at China Beach.

I must say my expectations were pretty high based on the reviews we read. We were not disappointed at the least. The hospitality is above and beyond what is common today.

This place is simply wonderful. Great service, amazing food, and a very comfortable place to spend a weekend.

We would love to visit again!

As soon as you walk in the door the Shelburne seems like home away from home if somewhat more cluttered than most of our homes. This is a friendly retreat from the weekday pressures of Seattle and Portland. Seaview is lazy and charming with avenues of wooden clapboard houses dating back to the late19th century backing on to a beautiful natural sandy beach. The Shelburne is one of those clapboard houses that has been at sone time expanded into an inn with a pub at one end. The owners are very welcoming and coffee is readily available in the reception area. We rented the "Colonial Room" with its own balcony. To be honest, the Colonial Room is verging on the minuscule, but other than that very cosy. Its downfall is if you intend to take any signifIcant luggage. The restaurant is quite accomplished.
The hotel is a place to relax and wander along the beach enjoying the expanse of the Pacific almost in isolation.

Room tip: Avoid the Colonial Room unless you have little luggage.
