Our hotel recommended the 42nd Street Cafe for a very late breakfast. I am soooo glad they did. Pleasant atmosphere, good service, fabulous food. I had the smoked salmon scramble, my partner had the biscuits and gravy. First the scramble: nicely seasoned, eggs not overcooked, yummy salmon, cheese grated over the eggs on the plate so it melted partially and retained its taste wonderfully, luscious home fries from red potatoes, and excellent multigrain bread (server's recommendation). The biscuits and gravy here have been completely re-invented! Not sausage, not thick and goopy, not greasy. Lovely toasted biscuits in a lighter, tastier chicken (yes, chicken) gravy seasoned with wine (or sherry or something really, really nice) with plentiful chunks of chicken. My only regret is that our trip was too short to have a return visit to this wonderful restaurant. Good coffee too! Only two minor complaints: the coffee is very good but there is no espresso option, and the marionberrry jam has all its marionberrry flavor overpowered by orange. Excellent if you like marmalade; not so much if you are expecting marionberrry.
