The location is beautiful - old traditional lodge, mountain scenery, crystal clear lake in the midst of a dense rain forest.
The lodge is quaint with a huge fireplace and very nice great room. The restaurant was excellent. The room, however, was borderline atrocious. Given the remote location, few, if any choices were available and the lodge nearly made up for the pitiful room.
The carpet was stained and dirty in several places, the bathroom was a joke - obviously an attempt to "modernize" gone bad. The sink was 10' from the bathroom on the wall in the bedroom. The toilet sat on a raised false floor - truly a throne and the shower was minimally adequate.
The location and common areas are wonderful, but I'd only stay again if there was a guarantee that the room issues had been addressed. The overall ambiance is great, but we only were booked for one night and glad of it given the condition of the room!
There is some affiliation with the National Park Service - I think it is independently run as a contracted property - old and remodeled is to be expected, but stained, uncleaned carpets are not.
