A good school, but very limited town. I graduated both Pullman High and WSU (Molecular Genetics).
After 10 years away I returned for homecoming last fall. I was amazed by the increase of the "Cult of the Cougar" Everywhere one turned there was a Cougar emblem or Cougar wrapped bus/banner.
I was sad to see how commercialized the CUB was, and how it has lost its coziness (remember the fireplace and large overstuffed furniture? What a great place to hang out in between classes-now they have beer sales and corporate eateries.
The school is good academically -when I landed in the Bay Area my degree was very respected and I had no trouble finding a job.
It seems like Cougs are their own worst enemy-instead of embracing their lovely school for what it is ( a remote academically strong State University), they put all of their emotional eggs into the Sports Elite Wannabes (especially Football). When the team loses, most are in a depression mode (too bad because the Cougs are pretty bad most of the time)This Coug Spirit thing is pretty over the top IMO.
To my fellow Cougs-enjoy the game, but don't get caught up in the hoopla of a winning team defining who we/you are.
