“Cooking class is a real bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

I traveled with three friends to the Prosser area wine country for the first time in October. We went to the October cooking class at Desert Wind and had a great time. The food & wine were all good and we even learned some things. I would go every month if I lived closer.

“Excellent Lunch & Wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

We had the pleasure of once again being in the Prosser area (for the Hot Air Balloon Rally) and had an excellent birthday celebration luncheon. The food was fantastic, the portions were generous & even though they were a little shorthanded, the service was Great. Looking forward to visiting there again.

“Great wine tasting.experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

Had a great time tasting wines. The server took the time to explain the different wines.

Ended up buying a case. We will be back!

“Beautiful on the outside...only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

The town of Prosser has wonderful village clusters of wine tasting rooms. I wanted the experts to tell me what wines had recently won awards, or had the highest points. All the Wine Educators were eager to share that information... except at Desert Wind. The woman (appeared to be a manager) was called out to help me, but gave me a hard time with my quest. She said that there were so many publications, that I would have to identify which venue had published information...blah blah. She made it so unpleasant that I decided not to wine taste, nor purchase any of their wines in the future. Such a beautiful building, though... Try Alexander Nicole, Apex, Martinez, and others! You won't be disappointed!

“Poor Service, Hidden Fees”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2011

My Fiance and I considered the Desert Wind Winery for our Wedding. The grounds are beautiful, overlooking the river and surrounded by rolling hills. However, it took over a week for the facility manager to return our email or phone call. We even visited the site and could not get in touch with anyone to help us (granted, we visited over a holiday weekend. We still expect someone to be able to help us or at least leave a message).
When the manager finally got back to us she sent us completely different information than what we found on the website. Things like different times when the facility closed, the fact that we'd have to book all the rooms at the winery for our wedding (extra $900 approximately). We would have to have security, she would prefer no children if possible (really? at a wedding?), there is no setup or teardown help and you only get the site for that night, and there is a limit on guests.
Really dissapointing considering this is one of the better looking venues in the area. Just not worth the extreme cost. The rooms looked very nice, but a little overpriced. Instead we found Shadow Lake Ranch. The staff has thus far been extremely helpful and flexible. The site is just as beautiful and allows everything we want.

WA_Wine_Lover, Public Relations Manager at Desert Wind Winery, responded to this review, February 3, 2011
Although this reviewer is addressing the event facility portion of this property and not our guest rooms, we would like to take the opportunity to respond to a few of the assertions made:

1) It is our policy that anyone wishing to book our event facility for an event ending after 10:00 p.m. must also book our four guest rooms. This is a policy meant to ensure a quiet and restful evening for our overnight guests, as the event facility is located directly beneath the guest rooms. If an event or wedding booked at our facility ends before 10:00 p.m., we do not require the client to book any of the guest rooms.

2) Due to the fact that our facility is a working winery, we currently do not allow children at private events held at our facility, including weddings. While we understand this policy is not ideal for everyone, it is our policy at this time. There are other (non-winery) facilities in the area that are better equipped to handle events including children.

3) Set up and tear down are included as part of the facility fee for all events held at our facility. Clients who have booked a wedding at our facility receive access to the facility from noon the day before the event until noon the day after the event.
