“Quiet and Lovely”

Inn at McCurdy House

Jun 4, 2008

My husband and I had a trip planned to the Olympic Peninsula on family business and ended up having to spend a night in Port Townsend, something we have never done. I found this Inn online and we decided to have a mini honeymoon, as when we married we had a combined family of children and never got to go away for even a weekend.

The Inn is perched on a hillside with a great view of the harbor and beyond. It is surrounded by well cared for gardens and there is a wide welcoming porch in front (don't mis the pretty back garden, off of the kitchen and dining room)

Kathleen took good care of us, giving us privacy in a lovely setting, and cooking a wonderful breakfast (and even put up with my particular food needs). She made sure we knew where we were going when we went to meet friends for dinner, and expressed interest in our plans and our family--it was like having another friend in town.

The bed was comfortable and the bath huge. There is one more guest room, but we were the only guests. My only quibbles were strong scents (I am very sensitive), the suggestion that the food was primarily local and organic on the website (it wasn't and that's an important element for me) and it wasn't cheap--but we knew that going into it--it was a honeymoon after all! And a lovely one at that.

Thanks, Kathleen for a wonderful night that we are still talking about.

Just returned from our 11th Anniversary weekend getaway. The Inn and McCurdy House is in a great location, with a spectacular view. It's just up the Taylor Street stairs from downtown and a few blocks from uptown. It's on a corner in a residential area, so you're not surrounded by hotels and motels and noise. We had a very relaxing time.

Kathleen is very friendly and soft-spoken. She offered suggestions on what to do and where to eat. She suggested the sunset at Fort Worden State Park, which we ended up just missing, but still enjoyed the magenta horizon. A longer stay next time will ensure that we catch the sunset there at least once!

She has a lovely garden, which I especially enjoyed as I am an avid gardner. I wish we had more time so I could just sit and take it all in. Again, we'll have to do that next time!

Oh, I can't forget to mention the breakfast! It was very tasty and filling. Another plus for our stay!

We had a short (one-night) stay, but it was just the perfect amount of time for us. And, the accommodations just added the pretty bow to our package getaway!

We discovered this B&B (the first we have ever stayed at) online and were drawn to its more "rustic" look. It was better than we were even hoping it would be! The location is perfect - the stairs leading down to the waterfront district were literally across the street. Kathleen was a great hostess and was able to offer us lots of ideas for what to do during our stay. Both of the breakfasts we enjoyed were divine. She was able to cater to our vegetarian needs with no problem. The bedroom with the magnificent view was great, and the bathroom with the giant jacuzzi tub was one of the highlights of our trip! Thanks Kathleen, for a great stay!

The accomodations were great. Kathleen went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had all we needed. She even humored our (my) quirkyness of never sleeping past 6 a.m. Her breakfasts are the very best food we had in Port Townsend.

“Warm Hospitality, Delicious Breakfast, An Antique Lover's Dream”

Inn at McCurdy House

Apr 11, 2008

We stayed at this little known B&B in Port Townsend for Valentine's Day. We were surprised to find that we were the only guests. Although the house is huge there's only one room available at a time. So we had the place to ourselves along with the Inn keepers a Mother and Daughter, who purchased the McCurdy House and turned it into a B&B. The Inn Keeper is a retired school teacher, and just about as sweet as anyone could ever be. She's also a wonderful cook and went above and beyond to accommodate us. She decorated the breakfast table with a lovely Valentines tree, put a local Port Townsend newspaper out for us, recommended restaurants in town, and let us browse through her family photo albums which date back to the 1800's and were absolutely amazing to see. Definitely we recommend this B&B.
Gorgeous antique furniture, light fixtures, windows, wood stove, accents are everywhere you look. There's a little garden courtyard that would be a wonderful place to dine or read in the sun.
Hopefully she will continue to do well and be able to expand and add additional guest rooms. One note the deep soaking tub in this room is great but there was not enough hot water to fill it up. The room with it's warm wood beams, high ceiling, and enormous picture window that look out to the lovely view of the town and passage more than made up for the soaking tub. Overall this is a very relaxing, quite sanctuary.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The Inn Keeper makes this house a home, an the house itself is stunning
    • Disliked — The lack of hot water for the soaking tub, but they definitely made up for it.
