“Just Couldn't Be Better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

As if it wasn't enough just to return to our favorite Port Townsend to photograph and explore it's charm, we had the greatest of good fortunes to reserve a room at the Commander's Beach House. Gail and Jim made us feel immediately that we were honored guests and we found that nothing was missing to make this stay memorable. We could have spent our whole two days just in this fabulous place. The taste and presentation of the breakfasts was flawless and wishing Gail would write a breakfast cookbook. Beds were extremely comfortable and we slept like babies in the quiet house. Two blocks from the heart of town made a car unnecessary. I especially loved browsing through the common areas looking at the antiques and all the colorful and unique knick-knacks. Go visit. You will want to return often.

Room Tip: We stayed in two different rooms. Both were beautiful and yet different. I love it so much there t...

Great location close to the community theater, downtown, and Hudson Point. Jim and Gail made us feel welcome and comfortable and were accommodating of our shifting plans. We were in the Island View room with its gorgeous view of the sound and loved the maritime sounds and smells. Breakfasts were top notch.

Six of us gathered for our yearly reunion of some Berkeley class mates in October and loved every minute of our stay. Gail and Jim are extraordinary hosts and the setting, breakfasts and bedrooms were absoluteluy first rate. We hope to return and would heartly recommend the Commander's Beach House. The house resident golden lab,Cutter, added to the ambience. We will return!

Room Tip: We loved the light house room.

Nice place; a bit hard to find at first. Right on the water; close to scenic Port Townsend downtown. Owner has menus for most of the good local restaurants (P.S.- Alchemy Bistro is GREAT). Beautiful garden. Quiet at night. Fantastic breakfast. An excellent value.

My husband Alex and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Commander's Beach House! Jim and Gail are wonderful hosts and help you to enjoy the ambience of the whole area. Gail's breakfast meals were excellent and we really enjoyed getting to meet other guests who were staying at the Inn during our stay. I don't think I've slept so well in years! I would definitely go back again!

There was one item that I wasn't as happy about. The bath towels were slightly damp every morning. This would not stop my husband and I from returning to this wonderful get-a-way!!!

Room Tip: For me the downstairs room is the best and has the most privacy. You have your own bathroom (without...

This was my third stay at the CBH - there will be more! The hosts, Jim and Gail, are warm, fun, and caring people, the food is very fine (Gail is a creative cook who seems to do it with enviable ease), the location is superb, allowing early morning walks on the beach, or short walks into town, and the view, at any time, is breathtaking and grounding. Nothing finer than to sit in the garden in late afternoon, glass of red wine in hand, contemplating the water, it's color, it's sound together with the channel bell and birds, the sight of white sails, the clouds in the sky. The world is still ok, right there and then.

What a wonderful spot -- right on the shoreline! The food was excellent, the room cosy and lovely, and the view was amazing! It's a comfortable walk to downtown and restaurants, or a short, short drive. We came on the recommendation of friends and were very pleased.
