“Wish we had read prior reviews! DO NOT SPEND A NIGHT OR YOUR MONEY HERE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We reserved online, coming from out of state for a wedding. The town was booked up. Website photos of lobby make this waterfront motel look like a nice place. Do not be fooled by the photos and text there! (Lobby was in fact ok and clerks at desk polite, but helpless or uninterested in making amends for the horrible accomodations, as we found out later.) Breakfast is free, but very minimal-- cheap dry cereal, green bananas. And the room?! OMG! Yecchh! We were in an end unit, ground floor. Building has no inner hallway. At this place the doors directly to the cement walkway by the parking lot, like a freeway truckstop motel. The room has no windows, just sliding glass door on the far side, opposite the front door, which opens onto a tiny cement patio . This did have a railing, but anyone could have climbed over and it felt unsafe as our patio was actually just a few feet from the frontage road by the marina. (As a safety feature, the room was provided with a dented piece of copper tubing to keep the slider from being opened fully. We used it.) After checking in, we left our suitcases in the but had not time to really survey it. Too bad! We would have left immediately. But we were late for a gathering. We did notice it smelled old and musty, with overtones of room spray. Came back to the room quite late and got ready to go right to bed. (Did turn on the TV for late news: it did work but was small and obviously over twenty years old, as we have one in our basement very much like it, from 1992. Bath tub caulking looked like it needed replacing, but the bathroom was clean. Only two thin towels were provided, no courtesy "products" whatsoever such as small shampoo.) The mattress was very firm, with no top padding so the button depressions could be felt. The bed, a Queen, had only had two pillows, both small and lumpy. The thin blanket looked like garage sale leftover. The sliding screendoor came out of its track and had to be set aside for the night, when we were wrestling with it and the sliding glass door to ventilate the room Couldn't find any A/C. The dial on the wall seemed only to be for heating. It was a very warm evening. The outside air a bit stinky from the paper mill, but the inside air was worse, likely from trapped bad air settling in. The carpet was rumpled all over in "waves" as though the glue had given up. We suspected it possible there had been a broken pipe (sewage??) at some time as the carpet smelled bad, especially at the base of the wall by the head of the bed. My husband slept through, although restlessly, but I was awakened by the worsening bad smell which seemed to have settled around us and was just plan horrid. At 3AM I gave up trying to sleep---it smelled like having the bed right near a porta-potty. I went out to our car in the parking lot where I slept in the backseat until dawn. I reported all of this to the desk clerk, who was polite and somewhat sympathetic, and did not question the fact that we were canceling a pre-reserved second night. I asked, just out of curiosity, if any other rooms were "nicer". She said they are all about the same, except that the higher the floor the more expensive. OMG! We paid $159 for this dump of a room, possibly the worst night I have ever spent at any motel or hotel! Ever. (Once a year ago had to find a room on short notice in another town on a busy holiday. Settled for what looked like a "flea bag" on a busy freeway location and paid $50 for a clean bare-basics room that was better than this one by far. I am obviously still outraged that this place would DARE to put a customer comment card in the room, asking whether the rates are reasonable (among other things). Horrible, horrible, horrible experience. Would have left the second we saw all those details except that under the circumstances we had no time at first and got in too late. No one should pay any motel so ratty that sleeping in the car in the parking lot is preferable to the room. End of rant! Beware.

We booked a third floor room, but they did not have it for us. The clerk told us we should feel free to go elsewhere. (Hah--the entire town was booked, or else we would have.) The promised view was blocked by a large tree. The toilet seat was coming off, but the clerk did not fix it while we out to dinner. The spa was out of order and had been for some time. The breakfast nook was far too small for all the guests, but the food was terrible anyway. The recommended restaurant had been closed for 6 weeks. The $159 price should have been about $49. The rugs were stained. No curb cuts for handicapped. The location is not even in town! AVOID THIS PLACE!

This older hotel has been partially updated, staff is friendly, pool looks nice, continental breakfast is average. I had a very large king room with balcony and additional kitchen/dinette area with microwave, refrigerator, small coffee maker. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable.
Port Townsend was very busy and crowded on this Saturday night in August. The $159 charge was about average for Port Townsend which seems to be overly priced generally.
If you are disabled, there is no handicapped parking, no convenient curbcuts.

One is charged a higher fee on the 3rd floor as the view is "better" My only complaint was no working ice machine on that floor.

Room Tip: Probably a good family motel.

The room smelled bad, the pillows were not even pillow shaped looked and felt like were purchased from a thrift shop. Matience was ignored for instance the screen door fell of the opening to balcony. Daily service was however good for what they had to work with. I would not stay again.

Stayed here with 2 young kids because we were looking for something affordable. This place is a very basic motel and is in dire need of an update. The lobby is nice but the only thing updated in the rooms in 30 years is a curved shower curtain rod and the electronic key system. The non-smoking room smelled like old man BO, so much so that we asked for another room and that one (also on the 1st floor) smelled just as bad so we didn't move. (It was clear we weren't the first people to complain about the odor because the woman at the desk offered to run a ionizer in the room while we were out to dinner and stated, "That usually helps." It didn't.) Maybe it's a first floor thing as they don't allow pets on floors 2 and 3. The large but old tube TV had a huge scratch in the screen, there was an old dark water stain on the bathroom ceiling that looked like it could have been moldy at one time, and we found a takeout container of ranch dressing under one of the beds.

The rooms were large, harbor view is nice, it is very quiet, and the outdoor pool was warm (our 5 yr old enjoyed swiming in it). The hot tub and 1st floor ice machine were broken and the free Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby. The continental breakfast had a nice selection but was nothing to write home about.

Though the staff was nice, I wouldn't stay here again nor recommend it simply based on the smelly rooms. We are back home now and washing everything we had in the suitcase.

We really enjoyed our stay at Harborside Inn in Port Townsend. We had a view of the water and there was a nicely heated pool. It's across from a plant nursery too which is nice for browsing and close to a Safeway grocery for stocking up on snacks (we used the fridge and microwave in the room). Great value and kids had a good time. Recommended!

Room Tip: Only $10 more to get the top floor with the best views of the marina and water. AAA or AARP discount...

My husband and I were traveling for business and we were looking for a reasonably priced, clean, quiet, no-frills, but good sleep and complementary breakfast place to stay. The Harborside Inn fit the bill and, for the most part, we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were greeted nicely and given our wi-fi password with our room keys. Check-in was brief and we were on our way to our room on the 3rd floor at the very end of the building. The decor is dated (1990's), but that's OK, Though the room smelled a little stuffy, like some hotels rooms do, it was clean and furnished with an iron, hair dryer and a place to work. The king size bed was fairly comfortable and we had a nice view of the marina. The dress shirt was ironed and we logged onto their wi-fi to do some work. The complimentary breakfast offered fruit, cold and hot cereals, toast, bagels, muffins and other sweets as well as juice and coffee. The only negatives we experienced was that the wi-fi quit working later that evening so I had to use my cell phone as a mobile hotspot and a small spider was on my husband's towel in the morning. Both issues were resolved quickly.

Room Tip: There is an elevator so choose a top floor room for better a view and a quieter stay without worryin...
