First off....If you really like a typical modern hotel room, then this hotel is not for you. I, personally, loved this hotel! Lovely, comfortable room, decorated with numerous antiques but they manage to still put in all of the modern amenities (ie, microwave, fridge, gas fireplace) without detracting from the overall feel of the room. It is also within a short walking distance to just about anything you would want to see. For an older building, the rooms were surprisingly quiet. We heard very little noise from the other guests. The hallways are full of antiques and interesting artwork and is an attraction all by itself. I may also be biased because for me, this hotel had a sentimental element because it reminded me of my childhood and my Aunt's old farmhouse which was decorated in a similar fashion. Also included is a breakfast basket delivered to your door in the morning. It is a cute touch but in my opinion, they could do much better on the contents. We did not eat it and ended up going out for breakfast. This is the only small suggestion I have and not a very troubling one so If you are looking for something different and fitting of the location, you must try this hotel!

Room Tip: This hotel has a lot of steep stairs (no elevators in the time period this was built) so if this is...

My wife and I were off on a driving adventure and needed a place to stay that was close to the Puget Sound ferry system. We arrived in the early evening, dropped off our luggage and returned to the front desk to inquire about dining. The front desk person was very helpful and knowledgeable about Port Townsend. We went with her recommendation and grabbed dinner. When we returned to the hotel, we were offered a selection of DVDs for viewing in our room. Our room was on the second floor, the decoration was beautiful and period. After a good night's sleep and waking up to the sound of seagulls crying over breakfast, I took a shower with the Speakman showerhead. Luxury. My wife's breakfast was waiting outside our door in a picnic basket. We will be back next year. Highly recommended.

We were very, very lucky to stay one night at the Bishop Victorian. It's a sweet little hotel right in the heart of old Port Townsend and our room was just wonderful, the staff terrific. We had come for a wedding at Fort Worden, and had booked (online) 2 nights at The Harborside Inn, also in Port Townsend. After one night there we fled in desperation--- that stay was a disaster. (See my review of that motel for one star rating and details.) We got very little sleep there and couldn't wait to get away-- but got into trouble finding in a room for our second night as the town was full due to Labor Day Weekend tourism. After the wretched, sleepless night at the prior place, we desperately needed a room for that second night, and a nap to get refreshed before attending an early evening wedding. We checked The Swan, but it was full. They referred us to their sister establishment, the Bishop. What luck! They had just one room for one night-- and the management of the two places communicated and made sure to accommodate us efficiently and early in the day, making a herculean effort to have room 26 (on the main floor, in the newer area down the hall from the lobby) cleaned and ready as soon as possible after the prior guests checked out that morning--so that we could REST. Kevin at the desk was cordial and calm throughout our visit, starting with that panicky time when we arrived, pleading our need to get checked in as soon as possible. Room 26 was immaculate, charming, very nice indeed! It was exceptionally quiet, and for daytime, easily darkened with thick curtains on tall rear window. The bed was comfortable and attractively situated in an alcove off a little sitting room area with TV, sofa and chair. Friends came to see us at the room in the afternoon, and the little suite was so much nicer than a motel room of the usual sort would have been for "entertaining." We found the spacious, high-ceilnged room perfect for a relaxing visit. Oh, and the bathroom with pedestal sink, black onyx tile floor, thick towels and jetted bath (with super shower head and great water pressure) provided a serene touch. The room has a small fridge, microwave and flat screen TV with DVD player. Wish we had had the time to enjoy the latter. Perhaps on a return visit. Breakfast was delivered in a basket to our door promptly at 7AM, as arranged, so that we could enjoy a simple, light meal ( bagels, cereal/granola, juice and yogurt with our coffee and tea) at the table in the room. And as others have written, the location of The Bishop is wonderful for walking to all of downtown Port T. with its fascinating gift shops, boutiques, book stores, and the waterfront. We would definitely return to The Bishop Victorian and recommend in particular that first floor room, especially if staying more than one night to take advantage of the space and the serene and relaxing atmosphere.

We stayed in a suite on the 2nd floor for 4 nights. This was a medium-priced room.
PROS
1. Location--smack in the midst of downtown Port Townsend; a 2-minute stroll to shopping, restaurants, and the marina
2. Roomy suite, with large living area, basic kitchenette, and small bedroom
3. Delicious melt-in-your-mouth blueberry scones!
4. Laura Lee at reception--she's a fun gal

CONS
1. Bed sagged in the middle--I was constantly rolling into my husband (not in a good way).
2. Very musty/dusty smell in our wing. I had to hold my nose in the common areas.
3. Our wing was a little worn. The nicer, renovated rooms are in the same area as the reception desk on the ground floor. Our wing (2nd and 3rd floors) was accessed by a separate entrance . . .
4. . . . and we had to climb a VERY steep staircase--no elevator.
5. Breakfast was pretty meager for a B and B. Nothing warm, no protein except yogurt. Just cold cereal, juice, croissants, and those yummy scones.
6. Our room was sunny and had a view of the parking lot. My sister stayed in a higher priced suite--nicer but very dark.

Seeing that there isn't much competition, it's difficult to find really nice accommodations in downtown Port Townsend at a good price. It's hard to believe that the Bishop Victorian is rated #1.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor are updated (but pricier). If you have problems with stairs don't stay...

We recently spent two nights at the Bishop Victorian in charming Port Townsend. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and charm that continued throughout our stay. Our room was a suite decorated in a turn of the century flair and could not have been more comfortable or roomy. Breakfast is ordered the night before and delivered in a basket at your doorstep...the scones were homemade and the coffee was hot and just down the hall. The hotel is conveniently located in the center of town near many restaurants, shops and coffee bars. Our room was immaculate and the staff was extremely helpful in recommending excellent places to dine. All in all, it is a good value and a very nice property. Parking is available off the street as well.

Room Tip: Access to the rooms is by a steep staircase so I would recommend a second floor room for anyone who...

We just spent 3 nights in this Victorian Hotel in Port Townsend. Ms. Laura was the best hostess. She provide an informational map that helped us find lovely places to eat and engage in the "local" flavor of the town. The weather was awesome...Thanks for the memories!

Room Tip: Call in advance, they are really busy!

We had a great experience at the Bishop. Stayed for one night after visiting the Lavender Festival and I would love to go back and stay for a weekend or even longer!
The location is just right for walking Port Townsend, close to the Marina and just one block off the main street and all the shops and restaurants there. We parked the car and never needed it for the two days we were in the city. The staff was extremely friendly and our check-in was quick and easy. The room was very clean, and very charming with a sitting room complete with microwave, coffee pot, and a television for those who watch TV. Also movies available in the lobby if you like.
We opted for the continental breakfast which was left by the door in an adorable basket. They even give you an option for what time you'd like the breakfast basket set out for you!
Also got some great advice for our afternoon trip, we would have skipped Hurricane Ridge if not for the advice of the very nice guy at the front desk. Sorry I didn't get his name, but he re-directed us to our almost-cancelled trip up to the ridge and it was totally worth it!! Thank you to the Bishop staff, our short stay was an absolute success! We will be back!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are charming!
