We stayed in the 7E house. I was told that this was one they have recently remodeled so it was in good shape, no broken dishes, and very enjoyable. It did lack towel racks in the bathrooms but a minor inconvenience. I guess I looked at our stay as being in a historic rustic place, not a 5 star hotel. Our place had a fairly well stocked kitchen, nice sized dining room and living room, porch w/ view of the field and ocean, and four bedrooms w/ 1 1/2 baths. Our whole group loved the place. It does echo alot so can be tough if trying to put down young children to sleep early while the rest converse. We had a family reunion there and it seemed as though everyone else did too since there were lots of family groups while we were there.

The location is fantastic. Not far from the downtown area but quiet. Bring your kites. In the late afternoon, we all went out, as did others, to fly our kites. The kids loved it. The beach is right there and the lighthouse and fort is within walking distance. I am not sure I would bother staying anywhere else. We really enjoyed staying here!

We stayed for 3 nights in unit #325, the only unit available Easter weekend (March 24-27 2005). This unit does not fulfill the website promise of authentic victorian furnishings. The unit is a 3 bedroom (2 Queen, 1 Twin) 1 bath house that has been remodeled to be ADA accessible. Furniture was basic 1970's trailer park. There is no view of the beach. The house is on NCO row and is next door to the USO building and unfortunately for us, there was a loud party in the USO on Friday night. Quiet time is 10 pm for the whole park, but we finally had to call the Park Rangers to complain at 11 pm. The Rangers responded within 10 minutes and took care of the problem. I wouldn't recommend unit #325 unless you must have ADA accessible or it's last minute reservation and this is the only unit available as was our case (it is held until 3 weeks before rental date for handicapped renters, and within 3 weeks of arrival it is available for anyone to rent.)

The park itself is beautiful and we would return. But next trip will be staying in one of the houses on Officers row. Or, if you have an RV, try the RV park, which is right on the beach. Only about half of the spots have a view of the water, but if you get one of those, WOW!

Give 'em a break! For less then $200 a night you get the best deal in the PacNW. Be sure to check-out one of their newly refurbished O'Row houses which the "Friends of Fort Worden" have been lovingly working on. Only through dedication and LOTS of hard work could they have stripped away 50+ years of paint to recover some of the wonderful 100+ year-old wood work leading up the stairs and throughout.

New - Victorian - period lighting. New beds. And a completely new kitchen and baths (no chips, no drips).

Add the Fort's 1-year old Commons (the food and staff are great), and there's no place that offers better views or better deals!

The Fort works hard to keep parking FREE for everyone, and equally hard to maintain their woefully inadequate funding and staffing. Give ‘em a break (better yet visit ‘em!)

Yes, the houses are old. If dishes without cracks are important to you or if you spend a lot of time in the bathroom, Fort Worden housing may not be for you. However, if you want to take your family to a safe place with trails, beaches, historic military sites, and a lighthouse (that you can visit with a res. with coast guard), and other points of interest at an affordable price, Fort Worden could be a great choice.

If you love dank, dirty surroundings with furniture that is so old and dirty you hestitate to use you will love the houses at Ft Worden State Park. The house was so musty that we opened all the non screened windows for fresh air and tolerated the moths and bugs. We spent one night on "Officers Row" which is the better section of housing. There were six in our party and the house had four bedrooms with only one bathroom. Faucets dripped, shower leaked, every dish provided was either chipped, cracked or broken. Pictures on the web site are so misleading that it should be labeled fradulent. You really cannot believe what you see on the internet.
