“Waterfront dining, great view and service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

Don't e misled by the generic, mini-mall entrance. After entering, you're led by the very friendly waiter to the dining room that looks out over Port Townsend Bay, where you can watch the ferries come and go while you enjoy your very reasonably priced and delicious Mexican food.

“Just Your Average Everyday Mexican Joint”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

La Isla is a Mexican Restaurant located in a strip mall in Port Townsend. It backs on the water, so there are places to sit with water views which is nice. The inside decor is pretty typical American-Mexican restaurant, dark with booths with duct tape on them, and neon Corona signs in the window.

The menu too is pretty standard for American Mexican restaurants, large and varied with your typical combo meals and a few specialties. The food was in line with what you'd expect - the Mucho Grande platter was indeed Mucho Grande, but as with most restaurants of this type you won't leave hungry with anything you order. Nothing stood out as particularly flavorful or special, but it was all pretty good.

There is a happy hour in the bar, but it doesn't extend to the dining area or waterfront areas. The bar is really small and if you get three people in there it will seem crowded. The margaritas are served big and really strong, so if you want more than 1, a designated driver should accompany you.

Service was pretty shaky - we waited for 5 minutes at the check-in booth before walking back to the kitchen to ask if they were open. We were told to go to the back dining area where we found a waiter. We had to remind the waiter about our drink order once, and had to flag him down to ask for the check, then he charged us for an extra margarita that we didn't order, but other than that he did ok.

All in all, a pretty typical and ordinary Mexican restaurant - you know what you're going to get before you enter, which can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint.
