“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014 via mobile

We just returned from an excellent meal at the Bistro. We'd not eaten there before, but certainly will in the future. Our salads were tasty and the 4 entrees (goat cheese stuffed chicken, salmon, ravioli and steak) all got positive comments. Nathan, our servers, was personable and gave us great TLC during our meal. One of the finest restaurants in the county, no doubt.

“Support fine dining-Start with Bay St. Bisro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Bay St. Bistro is a wonderful little restaurant with consistently good food. It is not a cafe or a diner or a fast food restaurant it is a moderately priced fine dining restaurant with mostly locally sourced food also featuring desserts, chocolaes and ice cream from another local provider Carters Chocolates. The owner John loves to engage with his customers.
If more diners in the community would see the value in occasionally spending a little more for food they probably don't have the ability to prepare themselves and for pleasant service, small fine dining establishments like this could thrive. You do get what you pay for. Think it is too expensive ? Make yourself a hot dog and boxed mac and cheese at home then....

“Great Food/Excellent Service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

My wife and I ate here for the first time and were joined by two other couples from our long-time (24 years) wine tasting group. It is a little small (and funky, as others have noted...with a very charming little bathroom right in the center of the restaurant) with a small cluster of tables on ground level and more up above in a loft area (which I only saw from below).

The service was excellent, though it was a bit slow getting our food. We brought our own wines and paid a very nominal $10 per bottle corkage fee. Our waiter immediately offered to decant our reds...something I rarely see offered in other restaurants. At this point, I'd like to offer two suggestions to the wait staff: (1) decant your wines just a bit less forcefully. It's indeed good to splash the wine somewhat to air it out, but if you pour it directly into the bottom of the decanter full force, the sediment is immediately splashed up the sides of the decanter and your guests end up with it in their glasses when poured. Try tipping the bottle gradually and pouring it down the side of the decanter...being cognizant of any sediment. (2) always leave the pulled corks on the table throughout the meal. When we were ready to leave, we had leftover white wine to take home, but no cork to stopper the bottle. So we drank the remaining wine (which may not be the best idea if driving).

The food was outstanding! I had the Spaghetti Vongole (clams); fresh baby clams steamed in the shell, garlic, herbs, and Roma tomatoes over perfectly cooked al dente spaghetti. It was a huge serving with lots and lots of delicious clams. My wife had a nightly special of ravioli stuffed with Asiago cheese and chard in a wine butter sauce. Others at our table had Beef Bourguignon, stuffed chicken breast and grilled Arctic Char...and every single dish was delicious. Prices are a little high for Port Orchard, but the food was well worth the price...no complaints here! One large bowl of family-sized grilled vegetables (carrots, potatoes and zucchini) was left in the center of the table for all to share. They too were wonderfully prepared, yet simple. Some of the group ordered ice cream and truffles for dessert and all seemed to love both. I can't attest to that, as I'm just not a restaurant dessert-eater and didn't partake.

John, the owner also serves food and makes a sincere effort to visit with all of his guests. He has two very young chefs in the kitchen who do an incredible job and the wait staff is attentive, friendly and funny. Dinner, wine corkage and tip for my wife and I came to $62...very fair for a restaurant of this caliber. We definitely look forward to returning.

“Bay Street Bistro Brings it Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

I went to this restaurant for the first time with a date. She had the scallops. I had the pork. The whiners on this site who think this venue is too expensive are used to eating at Wendy's in the back of the RV. You get what you pay for. Isn't that the definition of a fair deal? You could not ask for better service. They knew their wines and how to serve a meal. In addition, the owner makes donations to local causes. I will go there again and again as long as the quality stays this high.

“John Rocks Port Orchard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is the best restaurant that ever opened in Port Orchard ir perhaps even West Sound! John the owner and chef has a personal hand in all recipes and only uses fresh foods that are in season. With the quality of food he has brought our little seaside town to a new level. Go for a special date or not. You'll be singing praises too!
