“Convenient location to Mt. Rainier”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2009

We made a good choice to stay at this place while visiting Mt. Rainier & St. Helens. Our room was in the back side, pretty quiet and clean. Breakfast was ample to eat. Wi-fi worked great. It cool to see elk in town too.

A friend of mine booked this hotel and I was glad she did! Very nice, quiet rooms..I really liked the woodwork on hte dresser and the sink. The staff was very helpful with having no cell phone reception for us..The super nicwe desk clerk allowed the use of her cell phone for my friend to text her mom and the use of her laptop for me so I could get a quick email off to my husband.
The only negative thing was the cell phone reception..but if you had Verizon then it works..
I really enjoyed the breakfast and it was a nice drive to Mt. Rainier.

We stayed two nights at this hotel and really enjoyed it : room is spacious, with a micro-wave, a fridge and a TV. Bathroom clean with a lot of towels. Room was on the rear side so really quiet (choose pair numbers).
Service really hepful.
Breakfast quite enough, in a small dining room.
Parking places.
Great location to get to Mt Rainier.
A very good option !!

We were a little apprehensive about staying at a non-chain motel but our fears were groundless. The motel was very clean, the breakfast was satisfying and the price was right. The owners were helpful, very gracious about answering questions and interruptions. Too bad Packwood doesn't have a better restaurant!

The old lumber mill site in Packwood plays host several times a year to Sports Car Club of America Solo2 and ProSolo autocross events, including a National Tour event drawing drivers from, well, nationally. As an autocrosser, I frequently stay overnite in Packwood and the folks at the Crest Trail Lodge have always been very accomodating. The lodge itself is newer construction, and the accomodations basic, clean and functional.

Recently new management took over and the whole place seems to have had a refresh, including a nice breakfast room with the usual pastries, cereal, juice, coffee and U-Make waffles. Not the Bellagio, but a nice update. Most importantly, the service and attitude are even better than before, and it was very good.

The only caveat is that race weekends can book up months in advance (Hmm, a Mt. Rainier drive, a little autocross...count me in) especially the National event in Mid-August, so plan accordingly.

  • Liked — The house management attitude, cleanliness, and updates, plus great value
  • Disliked — It's not Paradise Inn on Mt Rainier.

My husband and I had a very late arrival at Crest Trail Lodge and the hotel manager patiently waited for us to arrive after 10:30 p.m. (In our reservation, we had been asked to contact the Crest Trail Lodge because the front door is locked after 11:00 p.m.) The hotel manager was very gracious and patiently answered our questions that night. The room itself was quite spartan but very clean. We enjoyed a quiet night of sleep before heading off to Mt. Rainier. The breakfast was limited to large muffins cut in quarters , english muffins, orange juice, coffee, and water. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Don't be put off by the spartan appearance of this place.
