Ignore the peddlers and stay downtown. Lots of great stores; antiques, imports, an Irish Pub, a great Pizzeria, retail-clothes, etc., other restaurants, a great toy store, create your own pottery, fair trade store and cafe.

It's all near the lake and fountain. A definite must see.

“Olympia Farmer's Market”

Downtown Olympia a great place to visit. The Farmer's market is usually open from April-October and weekends through Dec.

Nearby is Batdorf & Bronson's coffee roasting house (Good coffee, some organic).

A great restaurant next door is Anthony's, great food, but a little spendy. Just down the pier is Budd Bay Cafe; same food as Anthony's, but a couple dollars cheaper.
