“A piece of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We selected this inn as a place to relax and unwind, and it was perfect. Due to short range planning, we settled for their smallest guest room, but the view from the deck over the water was gorgeous, and the bed was perfect. Don and Linda are gracious hosts who keep a lovely home with many different places to relax and read or enjoy the view, and their gardens are stunning. The breakfasts were gourmet, but lighter foods are also available, with plenty of fresh fruits and juices, organic yogurt, etc. Don escorted us on a kayak trip into the nearby reserve, where we viewed lots of wildlife, including herons, harbor seals, and eagles. A visit to the visitor center at the nearby Nisqually Wildlife Preserve was also fascinating and peaceful. If you seek some peace and beauty, this place is perfect.

Room Tip: The Olympic room really requires you live pretty much out of your suitcase, having the least space...

There is a reason that practically every Trip Advisor review of this place is 5-star. Three days with hosts Don and Linda surpassed our wildest dreams of relaxation, tranquility and friendship. The home and grounds are idyllic, the food and personal service - extraordinary! There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience. It is hard to imagine leaving their home without being refreshed, renewed and with a new faith in the goodness of people.

The Inn at Mallard Cove is an earthly paradise in a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. From the moment you enter the winding drive canopied by trees and edged with ferns, you can sense a feeling of peace and enchantment come over you. Then in the clearing ahead you come upon the Inn, with lawns and surrounding gardens abounding in blooms of peony, poppy and rose and many other flowering plants with furry fuzzy bees buzzing round. The front entry arch is bound by lovely Clematis. The hosts Don and Linda are warm and friendly and right away you feel welcomed into their lovely bed and breakfast home. The Inn is elegantly and sumptuously decorated with much love and thought and comfort put into the decor of each room. Our first two nights we stayed in the Garden Room which overlooks the front gardens. The last two nights we stayed in the Mallard Room which overlooks the back gardens and the cove and has a large balcony. Both rooms were beautiful and luxurious. Don brought us coffee in silver service prior to breakfast. ( I am very picky about my coffee and it was the best.) And those lovely amazing breakfasts were soooo good! Linda is a premier cook and she has inspired me to put a little more creativity and "style" into the way I cook and present my meals. Our first morning, for example, we were served poached pears (which were almost too pretty to eat), scones, quiche, sausage and juice. Don kindly took my husband out kayaking twice, which my husband enjoyed very much. We only went into Olympia once and took one day to go to Lake Quinault on the Olympic Peninsula; otherwise we were quite pleased to spend our time at the Inn relaxing and unwinding. I, being a bookworm, especially loved their library. I was in heaven surrounded by all those books and the comfort of the reclining wingback chairs in which to sit and read, read, read to my hearts content. We walked on the rocky beach and collected some shells. One evening we observed a masked bandit; one of the resident raccoons raiding the birdfeeder. Our stay at The Inn on Mallard Bay was the highlight of our 3 week vacation trip and we hope to return.

Room Tip: There are 3 rooms which all all equally gorgeous. We preferred the Mallard Room because it is large...

The Inn at Mallard Cove is the find of a lifetime! My hubby and I just spent three nights with Linda and Don. The property is beautiful, so beautiful you may not want to leave it. Just sitting on one of the porches, looking out at the water, and mountains in the distance, WOW! The beauty is not only on the outside, but on the inside as well. Very nice decorating. And if the surroundings do not WOW you, breakfast certainly will. Linda is an azaming chef, and Don makes sure everything else is kept full, like coffee and juice. We found nice restruants close by - such as CEBU, amazing Phillipino food. It was so good, we went there twice. We are looking forward to our next visit to the Inn, and the one after that. ANother imporatnt item, the beds are very comfy. Got a great night's sleep, beginning with the first night. Another great touch is coffe (or teea) delivered up to your room about 1/2 hour before breakfast.

Linda and Don created a wonderful retreat with fabulous meals. The attention to detail was amazing. The rooms were perfectly decorated, the three-course breakfast was made for royalty, and the hospitality was fantastic. The inn, high on a bluff has a spectacular view of the cove, complete with bald eagles, harbor seals, and mountains. I would recommend this inn to anyone wishing for a nice retreat.

My wife and I were looking for a get away that we didn't have to travel a great distance for. This came up and had great reviews so...
The Pros - Affordable luxury...you will be pampered. The breakfast...top notch! (I have tried in vain to recreate the honey bacon...) The location...close in yet far away...great views of the water and of the local raccoon. The room...romantic without being too "frilly". Nice bath with all you would need. Everything was well outfitted...bed was comfy...room was quiet...overall great!
So...
The cons...really the only con was that it was hard to find a nice restaurant nearby and we didn't have enough time to use the kayaks. The only other thing would be that one can only book an "overnighter" during the off season (which we did). While I can completely understand why they would do this it would have been just too expensive for us if we had to do the two nights.
