I first went roller skating at Skateland in 1962, and it hasn't changed much. Roller skating is a healthy, wholesome family activity, and Skateland provides that. For under $5 you can rent skates, or bring your own, and spend a couple of hours there. We went to the 11:00 a.m. Saturday session and it was a great time to go with little ones. There were many families skating as well as the "regulars". We had a great time and we'll go again, specially on a rainy weekend. The negatives to Skateland is that it was filthy and in need of an update badly. The floor in the snack area was strewn with garbage even though we went to the first session of the day. Another negative is that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of surveillance. For example, there isn't anyone particularly watching the exits or bathrooms. Adults can go skating without children, so this raised the "Stranger Danger" alarm for me. However, having said that, Skateland has been operated for years by the Lewis family who are wonderful. If you come often, they will get to know you and your kids, and will keep their eyes on them. Skateland has a large party room to use to celebrate birthdays. There is the usual music, Hokey Pokey, races, and games for the kids. So, yes, I recommend Skateland for a great physical activity and a fun time. (Hopefully they will remodel - replace that icky carpet - someday)
