“Rustic and lovely.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

Stayed in the Churri cabin. Small but a bathroom and deck. Just write and pooch friendly. Bed awful. They really need to do something about the bed.

Everyone is so nice at Doe Bay! Love the service and the food in the cafe. Megan and Morgan were our favorites in the cafe. We loved the breakfast/brunch. I didn't get to try everything unfortunately. Dinner was really good and interesting. We did the tasting menu. Amazing panna cotta!!! Yum!!!

Cute country store where you can buy high end treats like ice cream, wine, chocolate, etc.. Clothing and gifts too. Great soap and the coffee beans are amazing.

I wish they would move away from clothing optional in the spa. It's just not appropriate with that many people. Or, make it after 8 pm or something. We didn't use it at all because we just aren't comfortable.

The perfect first trip to Washington. The Sweet Spot yurt was amazing; cold at times, so bring extra blankets, this was in August, the best escape from the Palm Springs heat. Hope to return one day, because the food was great and the vibe was right. Deathly allergic to bees, so be cautious all over the island if you are too.

On the Northwest-most populated Island in continental USA (Victoria Canada is south of here) at the farthest end of the road from the ferry on Orcas Island is Doe Bay Resort and Retreat Center. Standing on top of Mt Constitution there are phenomenal views of Canada, Washington, the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound. We rented the Retreat House (which sleeps 22) for a family retreat and celebrated Passover feasting interrupted by soaks in the on-site clothing-optional hot tubs and off-site hiking. The hot tubs and sauna have fabulous views of Doe Bay with the roaring brook rushing right up against the hot tub platform. As a special Passover treat, we ate local oysters everyday we were there. While we did almost all our own cooking, we did dine in and enjoy the food at Doe Bay which specializes in local foods. We also ate at the Inn at Ship Bay which had fabulous farm to table local, organic selections.

We had a lovely time at Doe bay. Two great soaks in the hot tubs overlooking the sound. Clothing optional spa. Love! We had breakfast at the Cafe and everything ordered was stellar! Already planned my next trip back. The cabin we stayed in was brand new and super comfy.

We didn't stay at Doe Bay, but ate there twice on our trip to the island. Our friends who live there had chose the place. Definitely an odd vibe. Very casual, with an eclectic mix of people. What we found odd was for 4 people, we spent $210 on dinner. This was for 4 entrees, 2 appetizers and 4 beers. Way too much! Food was presented very well, however if I am paying $30 for a piece of fish, I expect a piece larger that a deck of cards. The side dish was 2 baby carrots cut in half and grilled. All of our entrees were similarily propotionally small.
On Thursday evenings they have a pizza night and donate $1 from each pizza to various charities. Pizza's are about $15 and would feed one person. They also have an open mic during this time. Some wonderful musicians and some who were the polar oppositie.
I think the best value in food on the island we had was dinner at Sazio's in Eastsound and lunch at Chimayo's (also there).

Orcas Island is just an amazing place..and to stay at Doe Bay Resort and Retreat made it even better, very relaxing atmosphere. Foods good to. The mornings sitting in the cafe looking over the bay are absolutely magical. This place is like a little piece of heaven for the mind. If you are looking for a weekend to relax than I highly recommend http://doebay.com/

We went here on our anniversary & were really disappointed for what we paid - $165 a night. Our cabin was the "Mala" & was located on a hillside a great distance from the cafe & soaking tubs. The "cabin" was really a small trailer that was built to look like a cabin. Extremely tiny bathroom that lacked a sink, & a shower that was a the smallest that we've ever encountered. You had to use the sink in the "kitchenette" to wash your hands or brush your teeth. The shower door leaked like a sieve & soaked anything on the floor. There were cobwebs on the bathroom & kitchen walls & ceilings. A coffee maker was provided but nothing to put in it. The parking area required you to walk an uphill path of approximately a block to your lodging. One window lacked a bug screen & the other had a gaping hole. It had a 2 burner stove in the "kitchenette" that required a match to light. I turned the burner on & waited patiently for it to light before I realized it was just a basic propane campstove with no pilot light. Lucky I didn't blow the place up! It had a distant view of the bay, but otherwise it was lacking anything else. Just a large barren field in the front with picnic tables for tent sites. I guess it was used if it was crowded & they needed to fill the area with desperate campers. Two plastic chairs on the deck, no cushions, & that was it.
This property is the second place that we've stayed in that openly offer a "bonus" if you are willing to post a favorable revue on Tripadvisor,Yelp, or Facebook. I wonder how many people are willing to do this in order to get a freebie? In my opinion, Tripadvisor should post a warning that these establishments are offering these.
The cafe was extremely good & we would highly recommend it. Pricey, but great food. Most places on Orcas are, but the food & staff here were great.
Our recommendation is to eat here & stay somewhere else!

Room Tip: stay somewhere else
